As we think about developing ourselves as mentees,


we already have great qualities inside of ourselves.
Although our mentors point out the great qualities in
each of us, we are the ones who have to find and
show off these great qualities.

While the clip, The Training, is played, identify how
Chan helps Smith identify the great qualities inside of
himself and what qualities Smith has.

Discuss with your partner why these qualities are


important to being successful as a mentee. When
you and your partner are done discussing, place
a sticky note of your explanation on the paper on
the wall and return to your seats. Feel free to
read other responses on the paper.
This session is all about investing in ourselves to
be better mentees, but with great power comes
responsibility. We are now going to dive into our
responsibilities as mentees.

Outlook 2: Identify the 'Top 10' mentee


responsibilities.
In a few moments, we will explore ten responsibilities
we have as mentees. Youll notice that the number
you received at the door matches one of the stickers
posted on the wall. When I say, go, divide into your
corresponding groups at each of the stickers posted
on the walls in the room.
Once you get there, work with your group to develop
a creative presentation about your group's mentee
responsibility to share and explain to the group. Youll
have about 10 minutes to work. Remember to be

prepared to present to the whole group. Go!

Approximately 8 minutes

What is the Main Point?

Groups create presentations using the 'Top 10' paper


they have received and the playdough. Check in with
each group regularly during the work time to check
for understanding.
The 'Top 10' Mentee Responsibilities are:
1. Know your goals.
2. Choose the best mentor(s) to meet your goals.
3. Begin mentoring relationships by discussing
goals and mutual experiences.
4. Practice the best standards of professionalism.
5. Learn to accept and receive feedback.
6. Recognize that your path is your responsibility.
7. Practice good communication.
8. Have a scheduled meeting time.
9. Be open to trying new and different actions.
10.Enjoy the ride of being in a mentoring
relationship.
Participants will share their presentations at the end
of the work time. Encourage other participants to
capture the information gleaned from the
presentations in their books.
