Problem 1
For the complex piping system shown in Fig. 1, use the Hazen-Williams friction formula with
coefficient C = 130. The useful input power of the pump is 40.4 KW.

a) Hardy Cross Method

Problem 2
For the looping network shown in Fig. 2, use Darcy-Weisbach relation for friction losses with an
absolute roughness of 0.15mm for all pipes and a kinematic viscosity of 10-6 m2/s.

a) Hardy Cross Method

Equations to use:
Using the Darcy Weisbach Relation
R = ( 8 *f * L) / ( 3.14^2 * D^5 * g)
W = Ri * Qi * [ Qi ]
Delta Q = (W + delta H) / G
G = 2Ri * [ Qi ]
Solution:
Sample Computation:
R = (8*0.15/1000*3000) / (3.14^2* 0.6^5 * 9.81) = 0.48
W = ( 0.48 * 820 * [820]) = 321844.17
G = 2 * 0.48 * 820 = 784.99
Delta Q = (321.84417 + 46 ) /784.99 = 0.081277
Q corrected = 820.08 L/s
