your responses and select ONE of the writing extension options below! If
your paper is the one that is turned in, be sure to copy the writing extension
that you select inside of your writers notebook.
Writing Extension: Foul Shot and Street Painting select ONE
(or both if you wish) and draft a poem that matches the style of the
poem you choose. Record your draft inside of your writers
notebook and prepare to share (if you wish).
1. As Edwin A. Hoey did in Foul Shot, choose a specific moment in a
sporting event a tense moment and write a poem that captures the
anxiety and suspense by slowing it down and describing it in great
detail. You must incorporate the following: powerful action verbs,
figurative language, and alliteration. Think carefully about your line
breaks and punctuation, and be prepared to defend your decisions.

2. Borrow Ann Turners first two lines to begin your own poem about
observing a person engaged in a hobby or activity. Start your poem
with I watched him/her a long time/and this is how he/she did it: then
craft a scene where your speaker is detailing what he or she sees and
observes by slowing it down and describing in great detail. You must
incorporate the following: imperative sentences (commands),
