Subject: A proposal to have the arts in the daily schedule at Academy High
School

PURPOSE
This memorandum is being written to propose that the arts be offered in
daily schedules. The arts should be offered because they help students in
many ways. They help students in mathematics and English. It raise their
grades by 17% in math and 11% in English (Chira). The arts also helps
students remember vocabulary words by using a simple beat to a song to
help. Music also involves math for how many beats per minute for a piece of
music.

PROBLEM
The problem is that some schools have eliminated the arts completely and
some have the arts in their daily schedules. Some of the challenges are that
there is not enough funding for the programs. In the best circumstances
there would be a lot more funding for the programs and it would be in the
daily curriculum. For example, a school in the cityof New York was highly
know, and recommended for its arts then the funding was cut(The Good and
Bad News About Arts Education in U.S. Schools - NEA Today). The arts are
vital for students because it helps them in so many ways in class such as
math and English.

SOLUTION

The solution will start with having a presentation for teachers, administration
staff, and students of why and how the arts are important to students. It will
inform people how important the arts are. The second step is to have
students and teachers perform songs from band, choir, orchestra at a district
event and a campus music festival that raises money for the arts program.
Then the final step would to have more art programs, camps, clubs and
groups for the students to learn more about the history of famous
composers. Also, where they can learn where the music was written and
where famous artists are from and all about their paintings and sculptures.
People that could help with the information for the summer camps could be
colleges in state that have programs. People that could help with these steps
are students, music teachers, and students that are in zero hour, and student
organizations. The benefits of the arts are that they provide better grades for
students and another way to study and work on memorizing as well. The end
goal is to have the arts as a class that students must have in their daily
schedules.

CONCLUSION
By having the arts, such as music, as a class helps students in many ways.
The arts will improve grades in math and English. It also helps students
express themselves when they have no other way to. On the greater scale, it
will help students by just more than learning how to play an instrument, draw
and paint, or act in a play, it helps students focus more in classes and makes
them happier.
