I am writing this letter to inform you of the work with which Mr. Kameron Monson has engaged in over the recent academic school year (2015-16). Mr. Monson has worked as a sixth grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary this year. I have had the opportunity to directly observe his instructional practices and professional dialogues with colleagues. Mr. Monson has a great passion for helping and working with students. He has a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of the students he teaches. To this end, he is continually learning and finding ways in which he can improve his instructional practices. He is willing to ask his colleagues for help in order to improve in all areas of teaching. He has, at times, also been able to implement the support that he has been given to improve his instructional practices. Mr. Monson also has a firm understanding of foundational content knowledge. He has studied his gradelevels core and directly taught those standards to his students. When, at times, he was unsure of how to teach a specific standard, he worked closely with either the literacy coach, math coach, or an administrator to understand the best way to deliver instruction tied to that standard or skill. In addition, Mr. Monson has a strong understanding of science curriculum, and he has done an excellent job of designing hands-on labs that visually demonstrate scientific processes and relationships. He volunteered to run after-school science camps throughout the year for multiple grade levels, so students would receive additional science instruction. I was able to observe one of these demonstrations, and his students were engaged and able to verbalize their learning to me. Lastly, Mr. Monson is genuine and caring. These characteristics truly shine through whenever he works with students that are struggling for whatever reason. He is able to take students aside and talk with them to find out how he can help them. This was also apparent during parent-teacher conferences, as I sat in on several conversations he had with parents. He is able to help parents feel comfortable and resolve and concerns that they have. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via email or telephone.
