Math Fair Project 2016
When: Wednesday March 16" from 6:00p — 7:30 p plus cleanup
Where: LCHS Alternate Gym and Cafeteria
What: Carnival with a Math Theme aimed at 4" to 6" Graders
ind a group of 3 or 4 students to create and manage a station.
+ Brainstorm an activity that you would like to run at the Math Fair. The activity must have a
‘math concept associated with it. It can be based on an existing game, but must be
modified by you.
++ The activity must be aimed at students in 4" to 6" graders. Topics can include: math
operations, (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing), simplifying fractions,
converting fractions to decimals, probability, calculator activities, etc...
+ BE CREATIVE!!! Create something you would want to play if you were a 4" to 6" grader.
+ On a note card or piece of paper, write the names of the group participants and the idea of
‘your project ~ items will be approved on a first come first serve basis.
Requirements:
1. A rule sheet or poster-board explaining the rules of the game that can be at your booth the
night of the event.
2. A one-page explanation of how mathematics is involved in the game, how you will
measure a participant's success (all prizes must max out at $5), how the game is played,
and what assistance you might have to give participants if they are not successful at the
game by themselves.
3. ‘Two people must be able to attend the Math Fair. You must be in the cafeteria or
‘commons area by 5:30 p.m. to set up and run your game. You may leave after 7:45 or as
soon as your booth is cleaned up.
