Midterm: Activity Lesson

The standards I wish to emphasize are: Standard 1- the

physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a
variety of motor skills and movement patterns. And Standard 2the physically literate individual applies knowledge of concepts,
principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and

performance.
My focus will be fourth grade
My activity will be the Jump Rope Ladder

Lasota 2
After thinking about a lesson plan to go with the standards that I
chose I knew that I wanted to do a jump roping activity. I chose jump
roping because it requires a good amount of coordination and motor
skills. It is also a very fun activity for the majority of children in this age
group, so it will cut down on lack of interest and attention during the
lesson.
I found a really valuable resource while looking for a jump rope
activity called PE Central. This website has a ton of great activities for
elementary PE that also focus on all of the standards that I am sure I
will use in the future.
To be successful in the jump rope ladder activity I will:
FIRST: Go over the rules and requirements with my students. This will
include reminding them to give each other extra personal space so
that no one gets whipped with a jump rope and making sure they have
the right size jump rope for their height. I will also be sure to tell them
that we are doing a progression, which means that it will start off easy
and get progressively more challenging. We will start at the bottom of
the ladder (easiest) and move toward the top (hardest) just like if we
were really climbing a ladder. In order for a student to move up on the
ladder they will have to do the movement at least 5 times in a row.
SECOND: I will give my students 1 or 2 minutes of free time to jump
and do whatever they want to get their bodies loose and ready to focus

on the activity. This way they wont be tempted to just forget about the
activity and they will be able to be more successful.
THIRD: I will have my students sit in a circle in the gym and I will
explain the jump rope ladder to them and what they are going to
accomplish. My jump rope ladder would look like this:
1. Forward Jump
2. Single Bounce (1 bounce 1 jump)
3. Double Bounce (2 bounces 1 jump)
4. Hop on One Foot
5. Backwards Jump
6. Speed Jump
7. Wide & Skinny Jump
8. Twist and Jump
9. Ski Jumps
10.
Feet Tap Jumps
11.
Hopscotch Jumps
12.
Cross legs between Jumps
13.
Cross arms between Jumps
14.
Double Under
FOURTH: My students will work to accomplish each step of the ladder
successfully 5 times in a row. I will tell them that if they need help
knowing what to do they can ask a partner. I will be walking around
looking at each of my students informally assessing to see if they have
mastered the jump rope ladder and if they have the required motor
skills needed to be successful. The students that finish, will continue to
practice and see if they can come up with a new step to the ladder.
