TM420 - Construction Project Management

Project Time Management: Assignment

The project manager of a construction company has developed the following network diagram to help
her manage a downtown building construction project. After receiving the plans (S), the manager must
coordinate a number of tasks, such as: Clearing the vacant lot, securing permits, digging a foundation,
putting in forms for the concrete, pouring the concrete foundation, putting up structural framing,
running electric/water/sewage, finishing the interior, finishing the exterior, and landscaping the
property. The building will then be ready to be occupied (End).

The associated time estimates for each task are as follows:

A) Use the three-point technique to estimate task duration, and the earliest start-earliest
finish-latest start-latest finish procedure to identify the critical path, the project completion
time, and the slack for each task.
B)

What happens to the expected project completion time if:

i)
ii)
iii)
iv)

C)

Tasks D and E are each delayed by 9 weeks?

Task B is delayed by 3 weeks?
All tasks are delayed each by one week?
The time to complete Task C is reduced by 25% of its expected completion
time?

Discuss the possible risks involved in this project, assuming that it represents a typical
building construction project, and identify a few risk mitigating activities that would
minimise the likelihood of delaying the project completion time.

Submit the assignment before 30th November 2012 at 10:00am at Office No.
