SURVEY FEEDBACK:

Having written a more detailed summary of The Adventures of Pigeuo and Bryan,
it was appropriate to seek more feedback regarding its reception, strengths and
weaknesses. Doing this would enable me to not only learn if I was taking the
story in the correct direction, but comprehend why it was or was not achieving
the response that I desired.
It seemed fitting to begin simply; sometimes, the most explanative answers are
those which require only honesty and
an opinion. As such, the respondent
was asked whether or not they liked
the idea and why. Every reply to this
was yes (thankfully!). In terms of the
reasoning, a common trend seemed to
be
that is was unique and
interesting.
This
was
rather
reassuring; I was aiming to create
something unlike any other product
and for this to be acknowledged told
me that the plot was most
definitely progressing as it
should. One comment noted
that
it
was
slightly
sad/poignant at the end.
Again, this was pleasing to
read. Whilst the narrative was
to be somewhat odd and of
the wall, I did not want it to
lose its humanity and ability to
emotionally efect the viewer.
Now aware of the general
consensus relating to the film, it was my goal to pinpoint the specific areas which
were enjoyed the most, and where improvements needed to be made. Two of the
replies stated that their favourite section was when the hermit is mistakenly shot
as it was funny with the potential to learn about him, like {we do} Ice King in
Adventure Time. Like previously, I was impossibly glad to see this. Whilst he
seems like an insignificant character he will, in fact, have a large impact on the
protagonists future adventures, as well as being a figure from his past
Essentially, as this is a pilot episode, I tried to make questions and loose ends
present themselves so that interest would be retained for forthcoming
installments.
Another claimed that they felt that the encounter with the four-armed beast was
the most entertaining segment as it was almost like a video game and is
exciting yet terrifying at the same time. It was good to hear that this episodes
central antagonist had not gone unnoticed. The aim of this inclusion is somewhat
predictable; to provide the climatic point to the story and be the precipice of the
pairs realisation that the world is not how they remember it. The antithesis to
this, the final respondent wrote that what they liked most was Bryans obscure
dress sense and how he comes to next to the empty pigeon cage. As the

clothing is consistent throughout the production, it is pleasant for the smaller

details to be noticed. It is
these items that will become
symbolic with the character
and should be as well thought
of as the larger, more obvious
elements; it is important to
recall that how someone looks
helps forge our perceptions of
them.

At the other end of the

spectrum, several improvements were suggested. Character introductions were a
recurring topic. I was able to deduce that they required a more substantial build
up and did not just appear, so
to speak. To rectify this, I shall
put the arrival of the cast into
better context when writing the
script and ensure that their
mannerisms
reflect
the
scenario; in other words, I will
emphasise their relevence by
giving them fitting and reflective
entrances. Despite this, each
respondent
felt
that
the
development of the cast was
adequate, as of yet, and evoked
questions such as where is he?,
how did he get there? and what happened to everything. As these queries
shall be explored in future episodes, it can only be a good thing that the readers
of the preliminary draft are already thinking about the larger picture.
Furthermore, each recipient stated that they should enjoy seeing more of the
characters. There was interest in where {Bryan} and Pigeuo end up as they are
already starting to like the bond between {them}. Inevitably, this is positive as
they form the basis of the plot, and are present in each installment, in some
capacity; if we do not like those partaking in a show, we will not watch it as we
have no interest and little care in what happens to them. When we learn how
Pigeuo and Bryan are essential to the fundamental concept of the piece, we
realise that it is their likeability and dwn-to-earth obscureness that should
contribute to the audience returning.
Additionally, the use of a green screen was proposed to make it seem alive and
realistic. This recommendation is still under consideration. I am uncertain as to
whether or not I wish to create an overly true-to-life setting, or a cartoonish
backdrop not unlike an apocalyptic variation of Hillwood from Hey, Arnold!

Whilst
there
was
not
any
extensive
underdevelopment, several respondents felt
that more elaboration was required concerning
the hermit. Whilst this is understandable, it is
also justifiable; as he returns from the dead,
he will hint at how he knows Bryan, showing
the audience that they know each other in
some way that the latter does not exactly
recall. This section was featured as I felt it was
essential that the series central antagonist
was bought into play. Similarly, when the complete script is written, they will be
used as a means of representing and describing the degradation of society and
the extensive nature of the apocalyptic fallout.
In regards to the utilisation of dark humour, all of the replies felt it would be a
successful and necessary element. It seems as though this technique is required
to prevent it from becoming overly serious or depressing. Considering that I
am looking to put an alternative, relatively light-hearted spin on the genre, to
make it excessively formal would prove fatal to its reception and the overall
meaning. Moreover, it serves to contrast with the absurd yet thought-provoking
subject matter; as much as this is about a two-headed pigeon, it also
investigates what efect such a severe catastrophe could have on someone,
especially when coupled with
such loneliness. Likewise, the
comedy could aid in making
the film more emotional,
particularly on reaching the
conclusion; having been led to
believe that what we have
seen is based in fact, to
discover that Bryan is actually
all alone in this horrific new
world
could
be
thoughtprovoking
and
somewhat
devastating to a viewer who is
truly
invested
in
the
characters and storyline.
