Cougar Shot Club


What:

Shot Club - Shoot and MAKE a certain number of shots


between May 1 August 30, 2016. The shot club is a shooting
program that is designed to get boys and girls involved with
basketball to become better shooters and more active.

Eligibility: Boys and girls of all ages between 1st and 8th grade.
Amount of shots will vary by age.

How:

Count the shots you make every time you shoot. The shot
goals for the number of shots made for each age group are as
follows (grade is determined by the players grade for the
upcoming school year):
1st 2nd grade: 1,000 shots made
3rd 5th grade: 3,000 shots made
6th 8th grade: 5,000 shots made

Reward: Shot club T-shirt for meeting the required shots made and
recognition for be a shot club member.

Instructions: Follow these simple instructions:


Shoot, shoot, and shoot some more with GOOD shooting form.
Shooting all layups does not count. Vary your shots for game
type situations and shoot a lot of free throws. At least 15% of
your made shots should be free throws.
Count how many shots you make
Complete the shooting club form to easily track your shots made
including signature by a parent

Kids this can be a great goal for your summer and keep you
working on your basketball skills. Incorporate all your skill work
into your different shooting routines.
Parents this is a great way to get involved with your kids
basketball skill development. Get out there and shoot with them
to really make it fun!

Shooting Mechanics
1. Have a shooters mentality
a. confidence to make an open shot
b. confidence to blow by defender when guarded
2. Ready to shoot
a. hands ready
b. mind ready
c. step into shot (left, right for RH shooter)
3. Good alignment and balance
a. front toe, elbow, index finger aimed at the hoop
b. legs bent, right leg slightly in front of left (for right-hander)
4. Ball should be comfortable in hand
a. hold softly in finger pads, not palm of hand
b. index finger on or close to center of ball
5. Shoulders square to hoop
6. Elbow close to side
a. form an L
b. dont jam it into side
7. Controlled jump
a. release ball right before the top of jump
b. momentum should go from your legs to your arms to the release
8. Find the hoop with eyes before shot
a. focus on middle of the hoop, do not follow shot with eyes
9. Release the ball up, not out for proper arc
a. elbow should finish above eyes
b. ball releases off middle and index finger last
c. snap wrist for proper backspin
10. Follow thru
a. keep hand up until ball goes in
11. Have confidence to shoot the ball again
