INTRODUCTION
For the past few weeks, we have been
disassembling and reassembling old Dell computers.
For this reason, Dell has hired us to create a
presentation to show kids and adults the tools,
parts, procedures, and the safety precautions
needed to disassemble and reassemble the
computer.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Once you open up your case, take the anti-shock cable from your tool kit and clamp it to a piece of
metal while the velcro strap is around your wrist.

Make sure that if you do not have the wire on your wrist then DONT touch the anything inside of the
computer because you might get shocked.

Try to not push on anything really hard or try to pull it out without it being unlocked because then
that piece might break.

Make sure that all of the computer parts are unplugged before you do anything so that you reduce
that chance of you getting shocked

If your computer is getting hot and wont stop it is most likely still plugged in so stop what you are
doing and make sure everything is unplugged

PROCEDURES
Case

Case Push tab upwards on the side of the computer and the case will unlock.
Then lift the case up from where it unlocked and take the cover off. The case is
used to conceal all of the computer parts. To put the case back on just lock all
parts of the case to it latches

Hard Drive- In one of the corners you will see a blue tab. You push the tabs
together and pull up for you to take the hard drive out. The hard disk drive is used
to read, write, and position the hard drive so that you can get the largest amount
of data storage. To put the hard disk drive back just pull tabs together and slide
back into compartment.

CD-ROM Right on the inside part of that you will find a blue tab with a arrow on
it point in the direction it wants you to pull. Pull that blue tab and take of the black
cover. Then unplug the CD-ROM and take it out by pushing it out the direction you
would usually take a CD out. This part is used to insert a CD to play audio or
visuals on your computer. To put CD-ROM back slide the CD-ROM unit back where
you took it out put the black cover back on and attach the cables again

CD-ROM

Network Card

PROCEDURES CONT.

Fan
Expansion
Card

Fan To take the fan out you need to take the cover off. On either side of the big black piece which is the cover for
the fan has two screws. Use your screwdriver to take out the screws. Then unplug the fan and pull out. The fan
helps the computer from overheating and cools it down. To put it back just do the same thing you did to take it out
and first put the fan inside and then the cover and put the screws on either side.

Network Card Next to the CD-ROM compartment the network card will be right there and all you have to do is
take it out. The network card has the electronic circuitry which is needed to communicate using wireless or wired
connection. To put is back do the same thing you did to take it out and push it back in and screw in the top.

Expansion Card On the outside of the CD-ROM unit there will a board next to it. First unscrew the screw at the
top of it. Then pull outwards with just enough force that it will come out. Expansion Cards are used to connect to
devices such as modems, sound cards, graphics or video cards, and network interface cards. For you to put the
expansion card back do what you did to take it out but in reverse.

PROCEDURES CONT. #3
Video Card

Sound Card
Data
Cable

Data Cable To take out a data cable unplug the cable from both ends. A data cable provides
communication between devices. To put the data cables back just plug them back where you found
them.

Sound Card Before starting anything locate your sound card and then unplug the wires that are
connected to you sound card. Once you have done that if there is a screw holding your sound card in
place remove it and take the sound card out. The Sound Card is used to convert digital data to analog
sound waves that you can hear through your speakers or headphones. To put the sound card back just
screw it back in and plug in the wires again.

Video Card There will be two tabs on either side of the video card near the bottom of them. Push the
tabs outward and pull up on the video card to take it out. The Video Card is used to control screen
display. To put the video card back just put it back in its slot and then push the tabs back to its original
position

RAM

ROM

RAM To take out the RAM do the same thing you did with video card and
take it out by pushing the tabs out and pulling it out. RAM is a place used to
store data. To put the RAM card back just slide it back into its slot and put
the tabs in its original position.

ROM To take out ROM do the same thing you did with the RAM card and
the video card by pushing the tabs out and pulling it out. ROM is a type of
storage in the computer. Once data is put into the ROM chip it cant be
taken out. ROM retains its content even when the computer is turned off. To
put ROM back slide into its slot and close the tabs to lock it in place.

CONCLUSION
This presentation has been made for your understanding of
the computer. So, since we have come to the end of our
presentation my team and I hope you learned everything
you needed to know about the computer, it parts, tools, and
procedures needed. The next time you go and do something
with a computer that requires, it parts, tools, and procedures
you know where to come. RIGHT HERE! The END!
