Present tense verbs

Objectives:
Students will use present tense verbs in sentences
Students will correct verbs, changing them to present tense

Verb sort, cut out verbs and nouns
Worksheets for students

Motivation:
Small group instruction
Sorting activity

Presentation:
Divide class into groups of three students.
First group meets at front with teacher and begins lesson.
Have students give verb examples
Read instructions together, go over 4 practice sentences, changing the verbs
Read through each questions, have students make changes to verbs
Second group does verb sort activity, separating simple verbs from nouns
Students write a list of all the 12 verbs that they found
Student pick one verb and write a sentence using that verb
Students finished with this activity, look to when Im finished board for next assignment
Swap groups and repeat

Practice/Application:

Students will do 15 practice problems, correcting verbs so that they are in present tense
Students will practice identifying verbs through sorting activity

Review/Assessment:
Use verb sort worksheet to determine students grasp of verbs
Assess student understanding during instruction/example lessons verbally
Students workbook page of 15 questions
