PROJECT SHEET No.
COCKPIT HATCHES
From: Les Dry
There is a vast area of storage space underneath the cockpit seats, if
only one could reach it!
One way to solve this problem is provided by installing hatches using
Low Profile Inspection Hatch No. 8812
Manufactured in USA by BOWMAR
Marketed in UK by C-Quip Ltd.

The product is well-made and very robust and the space achieved is most
useful for bulky things like fenders; you will soon be wondering how you
ever managed without it!
Since you will be carving a lump out of your seat it is necessary to
measure and re-measure before picking up your jigsaw.
You will notice that the cut away for the hatch needs to be situated
slightly outboard (towards the gunwhales) as the flange on the hatch
frame 15 narrower on the hinged side.
I made a template and marked exactly where the hole was to be before
cutting to ensure sufficient width so that the flange did not come on to
the curved edge of the seat.
