True Love
What is the true meaning of love? The average person might define love as complicated
because it is a pretty vague topic with many advantages and disadvantages. According to
Merriam-Websters definition, a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person. After
watching a YouTube video entitled, The Top 10 Facts about Love, my understanding of this
emotion increased. According to the video, love can also be described as a powerful neurological
condition, such as hunger or thirst. The feeling of true love can cause your brain to release a
whole set of chemicals: pheromones, dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, oxytocin, and
vasopressin. Furthermore, love is said to be equal to someone with Obsessive Compulsive
Disorder (OCD) due to your mind being consumed by thoughts of your true love. Real love can
also be shown after years of commitment and/or marriage. For instance, a couple who was
married in 1925 would be married for 90 years!
Now, since we have covered the benefits of love, let us consider the disadvantages of
falling in love. As many call it, heartbreak. What does heartbreak even mean? By MerriamWebsters definition, a very strong feeling of sadness or disappointment. Researchers have found
that when men and women look at photographs of their past relationships, that activates certain
regions of the brain, which causes a feeling that is similar to physical pain and intense cocaine
addiction. For example, if you have a slight headache, you can relieve the pain by cuddling with
a loved one because oxytocin is released and acts like a pain killer. The withdrawals are
extremely bad and can cause your body to release chemicals that weakens your heart, which
could later lead to having a heart attack. So, it seems that Ke$ha was right about love being
compared to a drug, but it comes at bad of a cost. There is also a syndrome from being

heartbroken called Broken Heart Syndrome, which can cause you to die from a heart attack
due to the death of a loved one.
When I was in love with my ex, it was the most amazing thing that had ever happened to
me. I did not feel like I was alone anymore since I had someone who finally understood me as
both a person and a woman. Because it was not always rainbows and unicorns, it was very
difficult to stay in love. I have been depressed ever since my grandfather passed away. So, I did
everything in my power to make him happy and I even felt jealous when he would have fun with
his friends, causing me to act all tsundere around him. The word tsundere is a Japanese term
to describe how the person acts around a certain person they have feelings for. This would result
in petty arguments to get him to pay more attention to me.
Eventually, our lo- I mean my love, because it seemed my love was unrequited, began to
die as he started to distant himself from me. Although, I shared my problems with him and did
my best to be the greatest girlfriend he ever had, since his exes took advantage of him, but that
did not seem to matter. I felt my already broken heart that was in the process of repair break into
millions of tiny pieces, so that it would never be fully repaired again by another relationship.
This resulted in me having an extremely emotional and mental breakdown and getting suspended
from school for four days until I was fully ready to return.
Overall, I am glad that I had that experience, or otherwise I would have never known if I
was strong enough to move on and I have. Today, I am in a very good relationship that he even
asked if in the future of our relationship, if he could take my hand in marriage, which shocked
me that we both have considered it. Surprisingly, after seeing that I have truly moved on, my ex
is trying his best to win me back.
