Thecareofhumanlifeandhappiness,andnottheirdestruction,isthefirstand
onlyobjectofgoodgovernment.ThomasJeffersononcesaidwhiletalkingaboutmass
destruction.Massdestructionmayserveafewgoodpurposes,butinmyopinionthebad
outweighsthegoodonthesubject.Idonotbelievethatmassdestructiontotheworldand
tothepeopleinitshouldbeallowed.Massdestructioninmyopinionisverydevastating
andcruel,andshouldbestoppedifweareeverabletoo,becauseIfeelasiftheworld
willbeamuchmorepeacefulplace.
Massdestructionisamilitarytermthatisdefinedasdeathorinjuryonalarge
scale,especiallyascausedbynuclearorbiologicalweapons.Withthatbeingsaid,there
ismorethanjustonetypeofweaponsofmassdestructionthatareused.Therearefour
majorgroupsofweaponsthatcanbeusedformassdestructionandthoseare:nuclear,
radiological,chemical,andbiological.Themostdangeroustypeofweaponisthenuclear
weaponbecausetheEarthcannotwithstandoveracertainamountofnuclearpower.
Weaponsofmassdestructionaredesignedtocausealotofharminalittleamountof
time.Theonlygoodpurposeofmassdestructioninmypersonalopinionisthatitsendsa
messagefromacertaincountrybykillingoffagoodpercentofadifferentcountries
population.Itisalmostawayofshockingcountryintodoingwhattheothercountry

wantsandIdontbelievethatanycountryshouldhavetoliveinfearofbeingcompletely
deconstructedfromnuclearmeasuresofwhichevermethodthecountrydecidestouse.
AccordingtooneofForbesmagazinescontributors,MichaelPeck,theUnited
StatesofAmericasmilitaryalreadyusescertaintypesofweaponsthatcanbelinkedto
massdestruction.TheM67handgrenade,theTOW2antitankmissile,theM795
artilleryshell,thePGU14/BArmorPiercingIncendiaryammunition,theJointDirect
AttackMunition,andtheW78thermonuclearwarheadarealltypesofweaponrythatthe
UnitedStatesofAmericaMilitaryusesalmosteverydaythattheyareincombatandwill
continuetodosountilthebattlesareover.
Anuclearweaponisdefinedasanexplosivedevicewhosedestructivepotential
derivesfromthereleaseofenergythataccompaniesthesplittingorcombiningofatomic
nuclei.Achemicalweaponisachemicalagentortoxin,suchasmustardgas,lewisite,or
sarinthathasbeenpreparedforreleaseonthebattlefieldorwithinacivilianpopulation
insufficientconcentrationtocausewidespreadillnessordeath.Abiologicalweaponisa
biologicalpathogenortoxin,suchastheanthraxbacteriumorthesmallpoxvirusthathas
beenpreparedforreleaseonthebattlefieldorwithinacivilianpopulationinsufficient
concentrationtocausewidespreadillnessordeath.Aradiologicalweaponisanyweapon
thatisdesignedtospreadradioactivematerialwiththeintenttokillandcausedisruption.
Allofthesemethodsareusedformassdestructioninseverecases.Themostcommon
typeofweaponofmassdestructionthatisattemptedthemostisthenuclearweapon
becauseitisthemosteffective,easiesttoobtain,anditisalsotheeasiestweaponto
make.Theleasteffectiveisabiologicalweaponbecauseitishardesttoeffectalarge

amountofpeopleinsuchasmallamountoftimewithavirusbecauseitissoeasily
caughtsincewhenpeoplegetsick,theygotothedoctorandiftheyfindoutthatthe
personisinfectedwithsomethingthatstrong,theyquarantinethem.Itmaykilloffatthe
mostahundredorsopeoplebutitisusuallycaughtbeforetoomanypeopledieofthe
illness.Itisveryunlikelythatanepidemicsobigwillbreakoutandkilloffawhole
populationlikewhathappensinmovieswhereonepersongetssickandtheneveryone
elsegetssickandturnsintozombiesandtheneveryonebutaboutfiveorsixpeoplemake
itoutaliveandsomehowallfindeachother.
AbhishekShahwroteabouttheprosandconsofmassdestruction,andthecons
outweightheprosfortheoutcomesofmassdestruction.Theconsthathehadwritten
aboutnuclearandradiationaccidents,lowlevelsofradioactivityfromnormaloperations,
terrorism,finishingmankindoff,disabilityandcancersamongstaffectedpopulationfor
decades,environmentdisaster,divertsresourcesfromproductiveuses,andnuclear
weaponstestingcausespollutionanddegradation.Thatlonglistofconsisonlymatched
upwithagrandtotaloftwoprosofnuclearweapons.Thetwosocalledprosofnuclear
weaponsaredeterrenceandlowcostinsuranceagainstaggression.Inmyopinionthose
twoarenotevenpros,deterrenceistheinhibitionofcriminalbehaviorbyfearespecially
ofpunishmentandIdonotthinkthatisveryfairtodointheworldandtheinnocent
peopleandyoushouldntbeabletocontrolsomeonethatmuchtowhereyoucanputthat
muchfearintosomeonetowheretheycanstopadifferentcountryfromattackingthem.
TheinsurancecostshouldevenbeafactoreitherbecauseIreallydontunderstandwhy

lowcostshouldevenbeconsideredaprowhenitcomestokillingoffagoodpercentage
ofthepopulation.
CrystalLombardowroteaboutprosandconsofnuclearweaponryandmadesome
verygoodpoints.Theconsthatshehadwrittenaboutwerethegreaterchancesofthe
weaponsgettinglostsomewhereandfallingintothewronghands,theriskofthenuclear
weapongetgooffaccidentally,andalsohowitcostalotofmoneytostorethenuclear
weapon.Ithinktheyareallvalidpointsthatshouldbeconsideredwhendiscussingthe
badpointsofnuclearweaponry.Thereisahugeriskofthenuclearweapon,sayabomb
orsomethinglikeit,togooffatanygivenmomentandgooffatthewrongtimeinthe
wrongplace,itwouldbeespeciallybadifitwentoffinthecountryitwasmadein.Italso
costsmillionsofdollarstohousethebombsorothernuclearweaponsbecausetheyhave
tobeplacedundermaximumsecurityinverysafeenvironments,usuallyawayfromall
civiliansandusuallyeitherundergroundorunderwater.Theriskofthebombgettinginto
thewronghandsisalsoverylikelyandshouldbeavoided,becausearandomperson
mightjustsohappentobesmartenoughtohackintothesecuredareathatthebombisin
andstealitandgobombsomewhereelse.TheprosthatCrystalhadwrittenaboutinher
articlearethatitcanmakewarsendandstopwarsfromhappeningandthatitcanalso
createabombingindustry.Itcanhelpreducetheamountofwarsthatwillhappenif
everyonewouldatleastthreatentocompletelygetridofacountryiftheyactuallyhave
theresourcestodoit,becausenorulerofacountrywhoisintheirrightmindwouldsay
goahead.Theycanjustthreatentogetridofthecountrythenmaybejustmaybetheywill
dowhattheyaskoftheothercounty.Itcanalsohelpstartanindustryandsupplyalotof

jobsintheUnitedStatesofAmerica.Theywouldhavetohaveabunchofpeoplethat
couldhelpmakethenuclearbombsandalsopeoplethatcouldtransportthemandstore
thebombs.Itwouldalsobegreatfortheminingindustrybecauseofallofthematerials
thattheywouldhavetominetogetto.
Iwouldalsoconsidergunsaweapononmassdestruction;itisnotasdestructive
assayanuclearbomborwidespreadvirus,butgunscandefinitelykillaratherlarge
amountofpeople.Ithinkthatthegunlawsallovertheworldshouldbestricterandguns
shouldnotbeaseasilyobtainable.Ithinkthatgunsaretooeasytoaccess,becausethe
onlythingyoureallyhavetodoistakeaclass,thatisnottakenveryseriously,andthen
haveenoughmoneytopayforit.Theonlybackgroundscreeningtheydoistoseeifyou
areafelon,andifyouhavepassedyourcarrytest.Ifeelthatyoushouldalsohavetogo
throughacertainpsychologicaltestingaswellifyouwanttogetagun.Ibelieveasiftoo
manyunstablepeoplegetgunsintheUnitedStatesofAmericasimplybecausethelaws
againstowningagunarenotstrictenough.Ithinktheonlypeoplethatshouldbeallowed
tocarryonejustoutintheopenarepeoplethatarepoliceofficers,military,orsecurity
guards,sothatwaytheycanprotectandserve.Ithinkallotherpeopleshouldnotbe
allowedtocarryagunoutinapublicplace.
ThegunlawsinmyhomestateofOklahomaarenotverystrictandIthinkshould
bereconsideredtomakethemstricter.Moststatesinthesouthhaveveryrelaxedgun
laws,anditsusuallythemorenorthyougo,thestricteritgets.Forriflesandshotguns,
youdonothavetohavethefollowing:apermittopurchasethem,registrationforthe
guns,alicensetoproveyouownthem,orapermittocarrythem.Forhandgunsyoudo

notneedapermittopurchasethem,registrationforthegun,oralicenseofownershipof
thehandgun.Theonlythingyouarerequiredtohavetohaveahandgunisapermitto
carryit.Itisalsoalawthatyouhavetobeatleastofthelegalageoftwentyoneyears
old,andyoucannotbeaconvictedfelon,forobviousreasons.Ipersonallybelievethat
youshouldhavetohaveallofthosepermits,licenses,andregistrationstobeabletoown
agun,mainlyforthefactthatyoucanprovethatthegunisyoursinseveraldifferent
ways.Thereisalwaysariskofsomeonestealingapersonsgun,andusingitforbad
reasonstoo,soIfeelasifyoushouldberequiredtohavealockboxinyourhousethathas
aspecialcode,orfingerprintscanneronitsothatwaythatownerandonlytheownercan
openthelockboxandreducetheriskofguntheft.Theonlydownsideofthatisityou
areatatimedisadvantageifsomeonecomesintoyourhousewithagun,youdontreally
havetimetoopenupalockboxandgetagunout.
Thereisalsotheargumentofwellifsomeonewantsagunbadenoughtheywill
findawaytogetone.Ipersonallydonotthinkthatshouldevenbeanissueandthe
governmentshouldregulatehowmanygunsaremadeintheworld,oratleastinthe
UnitedStatesofAmerica.Itshouldalsonotbeaseasytobringgunsorothertypesof
massdestructionweaponsfromoverseastotheUnitedStatesofAmerica.Surethereis
alwaysgoingtobetheblackmarketandpeoplethatbuygunsandthenresellthemto
people,butifthegovernmentwoulddoabetterjobofmonitoringguntransactionsand
whereeverygunis,andwhoisincontrolofthegun,theworldwouldbeamuchsafer
place.

Soinconclusion,Ifindthattherearemanymoreconstomassdestruction,the
biggestbeingtheeliminationofwholecountrypopulationsatoncejustwithoneattack,
thantherearepros,likesupplyingbombmakingjobs.Worlddestructionshouldnotbe
allowedandweshouldnothaveaccesstoresourcesthatareneededtoaccomplishsuch
horrificact.Ibelievethatthelawsonthesubjectmatterofmassdestructionandeven
gunsshouldbemuch,much,morestrictandpeopleshouldntbeabletoevenentertain
theideaofdestroyingsomebodyelseslife.Massdestructionwillmostlikelyendthe
worldoneday,butIbelievethatifthegovernmentsofeachcountrycouldgettogether
andstopmassdestruction,everycountrywouldbebetteroff.

source is not biased because it lists the actual facts. My paper is about getting rid
of all weapons of mass destruction so it helps explain what laws are already in
place in my state. It really helps give an understanding about the laws.

because Im writing about how we shouldnt have such free laws against guns and
this helps back that up.
