Rules/Directions:
1. Teacher will instruct all students to stand up and stand near their seats.
2. Teacher will model the movement as follows:
a. For each letter students will move their arms in a robot like motion as they are
spelling out each spelling word and move their opposite leg, moving slowly
around the room.
b. If students have any disabilities that do not allow them to move they may sit at
their tables and move just their arms.
c. When students have spelled out the whole word they will then say the whole
word and pretend they are robot that are turning off.
3. Teacher will remind students briefly the safety procedures
a. When walking, we walk slowly and carefully so we do not trip over chairs or
hurt friends around us.
b. We keep out arms close to our body
4. Students will continue to walk in a robot like motion and turn off when they say the
whole word for the duration of the ten words of the week.
5. Students will stop when teacher says Robots please return to your tables safely

Reflection
The highlight of teaching this lesson was that students enjoyed spelling, which is usually a bit
boring for them. The lesson was fairly simple and because it is a daily component of the day, adding

the movement was a smooth transition at the end. Having a preset starting point and ending phrase
helped maintain classroom management as well as stating the rules and safety expectations. Some
students were doing the movements or not participating at all, so I reminded all students what the
expectations were and redirected them to follow along with spelling out the word.
The duration of time it took for students to begin the activity was short because students are
generally excited when we do movements and novelty activities. Students transitioned from spelling
which is mainly siting down and writing down the spelling words. When we transitioned into the
activity students need to give me hands and eyes, this means they are looking at me and sitting up
straight. As students were doing the movements, I walked around the room while doing the
movements in order to monitor everyones participation.
In the beginning of the activity a student will model with me the movements. Throughout the
activity I was not consistent in calling names individually but I did give positive praise occasionally.
I realize that giving positive feedback to individuals would have had a positive impact to
participation more than overall feedback. I could have incorporated using their names by calling
them out if they are doing an exemplar job at spelling out the words and doing the movements.
During the activity I praised the students by saying keep moving those robotic joints, you are doing
great. I feel I may have not used enough positive reinforcement because I was doing the movements
along with the students, but with more practice students can do the activity with little guidance from
me, allowing me to give more reinforcement and guidance when needed.
