Maude Delmont-Direct (take your time and listen)

1) Good Evening Ms. Delmont, could you please introduce yourself?

a. My name is Maude Delmont and I am 44 years old.
2) Ms. Delmont do you know Ms. Virginia Rappe?
a. Yes
3) How do you know Ms. Rappe?
a. She used to be my friend.
4) Were you with Ms. Rappe on Septemeber 6th 1921?
a. Yes
5) Where did you see her?
a. We went to Mr. Arbuckles party together at St. Francis hotel.
6) Can you tell us about the party?
a. Yes, Ms. Rappe and I walked into the party together and right when we
walked in we saw a lot of people, women and men. Men and women were
dressed in undergarments, jazz records were blaring, and everyone was
drinking.
7) Did you have anything to drink?
a. Yes, I had like one or two drinks but Im not really a big drinker especially
when I feel overwhelmed.
8) What do you mean by overwhelmed?
a. Well everyone was acting like such animals and I just dont like to
contribute to that kind of behavior.
9) What else did you see at this party?
a. I saw everyone drinking and dancing and I also saw Mr. Arbuckle make a
number of inappropriate advances towards Virginia who rebuffed him
each time.
10) What happened next?
a. Mr. Arbuckle was finally able to get Virginia drunk and he leered at her
and said, Ive waited five years and now Ive got you. Then he dragged the
poor girl into his bedroom and locked the door.
11) Can you demonstrate to the jury how he dragged her into the bedroom?
a. He tightly gripped Virginias wrist and pulled her really hard into the
bedroom.
b. Let the record be known that the witness Ms. Delmont has demonstrated
to the jury how Mr. Arbuckle dragged Virginia to his bedroom by holding
out her left hand in an upward position that indicates the force Mr.
Arbuckle used to drag Virginia into the room.
12) What happened after Mr. Arbuckle dragged Virginia into the room and locked the
door?
a. I could hear Virginia kicking and screaming violently and I had to kick
and batter the door before Mr. Arbuckle would let me in.
13) And what did you see once you got yourself into the room?
a. I looked at the bed, and I saw Virginia there helpless and ravished.
14) Then what happened next?

a. When Virginia kept screaming in agony at what Mr. Arbuckle had done,
he turned to me and said shut her up or Ill throw you out a window.
15) Then what happened?
a. He then went back to his drunken party and danced while poor Virginia
laid there dying. She looked terrible and I decided to summon help
immediately and the ambulance arrived shortly after.
16) What happened after the ambulance arrived?
a. She was taken to the hospital where I stayed with her constantly for the
next three days while she lingered in agony and finally on her third day
moments before she died she said he hurt me. Oh God, he hurt me.
17) Nothing further your honor.
