Early Years
Cobain and Novoselic started Nirvana in 1987
Went through a few different band names before deciding
on Nirvana.
Skid Row, Pen Cap Chew, Bliss, Ted Ed Fred
Middle Years
Nirvana decides to change their sound to go for a different
style.
They signed to DGC Records and shortly after released
their album Nevermind in September 1991.
Nevermind was projected to sell around 250,000 copies.
By the end of that year they were selling 400,000 copies a week.
Later Years
At this point Nirvana was selling out every show.
Shows became dangerous to attend, ambulances were stationed
outside when they played.
Nirvana decided to stop touring and only play a few shows
1993.
Final Months
Started a European tour in early 1994.
Final show was on March 1, 1994.
On March 4 Courtney Love found Cobain unresponsive in
his hotel.
Result of mixing Rohypnol and alcohol.
Post Break Up
After Cobains death the band decided to stop playing
music together.
In 1997 Novoselic, Grohl, and Courntey Love founded the
Nirvana LLC.
Nirvana Limited Liability Company
of Fame.
Musical Style
Started out as a grunge/sludge metal band.
Heavy music with angry lyrics.
Transitioned to more of a poppier sound with happy lyrics.
Used shifts from quiet to loud and mixed heavy and pop musical
sounds.
