Professional Growth Plan:

My professional growth plan begins on day one of my teaching career. My plan for the
first year is to make classroom management and lesson plan development priority one. By the
end of my first year of teaching I want my classroom management and lesson plan development
to be second nature to me. I see myself spending long evenings developing and harnessing my
skills in this area. I will work closely with my colleagues to learn the dos and donts of lesson
planning and classroom management. In doing so I hope to show my dedication to team work
and commitment to students education.
The first year of teaching will be a reflection of my diligent commitment to continued
learning in my teaching profession for the next five years. My goal for my first five years of
teaching will be first to learn something new every year that will help me in teaching students of
all levels in the content area of history. Secondly, I plan to be involved in some form of student,
afterschool club like cultural, theater, government, or history. Lastly, I plan to be strongly
engaged in my teacher union like Arizona Federation of Teachers and Arizona Education
Association, to have a hand in lifting Arizonas public education to a level above the national
standard.
Ground zero will be my classroom for creating an academic environment that promotes
community involvement and development for safer living. I see my teaching career being most
effective in urban communities in the heart of downtown Phoenix, Arizona. With my
involvement in organizations like Arizona Humanities, National Council for the Social Studies,
and American Council On the Teaching of Foreign Languages I plan to use the history content to
encourage my students to be more active in their communities. Its not enough to just develop
historical knowledge in students. I want to teach them how to apply it in their communities to
make changes in environmental development, crime, health, and education. If Im going to teach
my students about topics like civil rights, constitution, and immigration, I also should be willing
to teach them how this knowledge can help them better their communities.
I want to help all of my students that seek to make a difference for the better in their
communities. My plan for the first five years of my teaching is to not only grow professionally
as an educator but to also grow as a community asset to the surrounding community of the
school in which I teach. My being in involved in my schools daily function will help me be
better informed to extend out into the surrounding community of the school and school district. I
believe its going to take involvement on my end to make my professional goals a reality. Sitting
on my hands in my classroom will do nothing but keep my hands worm. I plan to be a teacher
that is engaged in organizations that help me develop skills to extend my classroom out into the
community and in the lives of my students.
