Understanding(s):

Perception is Reality
Perception is Created

Students will know:

Blind Contour, Contour line, Grid Transfer

Students will be able to do:

Create a realistic drawing of their own hand

Interpret how to perceive with the right side of their
brain
Transfer an image using the grid technique

How do activities, materials etc.

connect to students prior
knowledge?

Memory Drawing will draw on the students prior knowledge of

how they think a hand looks.

(academic, interests, learning styles,

motivation, Funds of Knowledge)

Assessments
(formative and/or summative)

Quiz on Reading; 5?s on pages 88-95.

4 Drawing Final Picture- After learning about the 4 individual
techniques learned today, students will draw a picture of their
hand that demonstrates the techniques learned.

Learning Activities:
(Include description and time
frame for each activity)

Perception of Edges PPT: This powerpoint will go over

the terms for this class like blind contour, contour, and
the grid system. It will also have some quotes from artists
and what they say about the importance of edges
(10 min).
Blind Contour: Students will look at their hand with their
eyes and draw what they see not looking at the page. This
will be a good help for them to start thinking with the
right side of their brain. They will draw as much detail as
they can in 20 min. (20 min)
Contour:They will simply draw the contour lines of the
hand while looking at the hand. (5 min).
Memory Drawing: Students will draw their hand without
a reference only from what they remember. (20 min.)
Grid System: Students will be given a piece of plexiglass.
They will place this over their hand and draw
perpendicular lines to give the image of a grid. They will
then draw a similar grid on their piece of paper. Students
will then move grid by grid to draw a realistic image of
their hand. We will discuss how value in an object
(shading) gives the perception of reality (20 min).
Drawing Menu: If there is time left over students will be
given time to work on their drawing menu. This has 3
categories they can work on. Students choose 1 drawing
to do from each category for a total of 60 points. Each
category has a varying level of difficulty and time that
should be spent on the projects. 8 hours, 4 hours, and 2
hours.

Accommodations made for

struggling and accelerated
learners
(grouping patterns, content
literacy strategies, etc.)

Option to do Quiz verbally for those who struggle with

writing.
Drawing Menu - additional drawing assignments that will
aid in the students practice. Gives students who are
accelerated and finish early something to work on. Term
long project.

How has the prior days

assessment shaped your
instruction?

Previously have taken a written Pre-Test and SelfPortrait. These activities have led me to create a lesson
that deals with the perception of edges and contour lines.
