Teaching Philosophy

Plants are shaped by cultivation and men by education. We are born weak, we need
strength; we are born totally unprovided, we need aid; we are born unintelligent, we need
judgment. Everything we do not have at our birth and which we need when we are grown is
given us by education. (Jean Jacques Rousseau)
Educators make a vital impact in an individual's life. They are responsible to plant the
seed of knowledge in students and water it with drops of love, then wait patiently to harvest
cultivated and educated fruits.
Every child learns, develops and acquires knowledge in a different ways and at different
times. As an educator it is important to know your students well and understand their individual
learning styles. My lessons and preparation of instruction are based on my students' needs.
Individualizing instruction and incorporating specific materials to address different learning
styles has proved successful in my classroom. My lessons usually begin with a teacher directed
activity and modeling. This provides my students with the opportunity to see and experience the
concept fully prior to show understanding. Questioning throughout the lesson helps me to
determine how well my students are connecting with the concept. It gives me a chance to
revaluate and differentiate more if needed. Once I feel the majority have grasped the concept, I
provide them plenty of opportunities for practicing before they work independently. I offer
additional help for those who need more support, promote peer or group work and collaborative
learning.

It is also very important to make the content meaningful and relevant helping students
make connections and realize what they are learning can be applied in other academic areas. I
make connections of content with authentic real life situations and their future expectations.
Finally, a technology rich educational environment is an important component for all
students as they navigate and perform in a technology dependent world. By incorporating
technology in my classroom my students benefit as technology makes the learning process more
motivating and engaging. Technology is also an efficient and effective way to individualize
instruction for every learner.
Each and every child has the potential to bring something unique and special to the
world. Our students are diverse and can all be successful. Being a guide to help children
maximize their potential by believing in them is one of my major goals as an educator. I set high
expectations for my classes even for the most struggling students. All my students are
encouraged to do their best. When students achieve even the smallest of tasks I immediately
recognize and acknowledge their success. These daily victories build their self esteem and
empower them to accomplish higher goals.
My role as an educator is to assist children in discovering who they are, so they can
express their own opinions and nurture their own ideas. My classroom is a safe space where my
students learn to respect and accept the differences between themselves and where they can
embrace the diversity that makes life so fascinating.
Environment in education plays an extremely important role in learning and child
development.

As most children spend the majority of their day in an educational setting

educators most create environments that are both physically and psychologically safe.

My students know my classroom is a safe place where they have a voice and will not be judged
or criticized. We always discuss topics as a class and come to an agreement of what is best for all
as a group. I encourage my students not to make anticipated judgments before gathering enough
evidence about the problem. I promote authentic respect, good relationships and honesty among
students and colleagues.
Developing solid relationships with families can make the difference between success and
failure. Homes are the first place where children are exposed to education and family support is
crucial. Working hand in hand with students' families will result in a linear pathway to reinforce
what has been taught in school. I have an open door policy where parents are welcome and
encouraged to visit my classroom. To keep open communication I offer my email so parents can
reach out if they have questions or concerns. Students are better behaved and make more
academic progress with this open communication policy in place.
Providing students with a safe learning environment, tailored instructional delivery and
regular parental involvement, is part of my success as a teacher and an educational leader. As
students walk through my classroom doors every day, I am excited and privileged to be able to
facilitate an environment where each child can blossom and provide them the tools they can
cultivate their own garden of knowledge.
