Reflection and Self-Evaluation- Goals

I

Knowledge of Self as an Individual

Goal: I will speak clearly and with respect towards students, so that I will
be able to get the lesson across in the most effective way.
Procedure: I will accomplish this goal by practicing my lesson before
hand to be well prepared and when talking to students treat them with
respect just as I would want to be treated as the teacher.
Evaluation: I will evaluate this goal by marking any mistakes made while
delivering the lesson and also by consciously be aware of how I address
each and every student. I will do this after each lesson I deliver to become
better each and every time.
Reflection: Throughout my time in the classroom and presenting my
lessons I feel that I did speak clearly when delivering a lesson or helping
students through a problem. I feel this is an important part of being a
teacher because if you are unable to deliver instructions clearly, students
may not understand what their task is and what is expected of them. I also
feel that I showed respect towards the students. While I showed the
students respect, I feel that it helped them respect me as well as the
teacher. By showing them respect, they understood that I was in control of
the classroom, and they also understood that they needed to respect me
as the teacher. Overall, I feel that while I was in the classroom, students
were able to learn and grow as a student.

II

Knowledge of Content

Goal: I will make it my duty to continue my education in my subject and to

continue to learn the ever growing field of history, and how every event
has an effect on the future.
Procedure: I will accomplish this goal by continually keeping up on
current events, but by also diving deeper into the fields of history (such as
modern American history).
Evaluation: I will evaluate this goal by making a list of the subjects that I
am weak in, and then when I feel I have a strong understanding I will then
check them off subject by subject. Also I will visit news sites daily to keep
up on daily news around the world.
Reflection: I was able to reach this goal during my time in the classroom
working with the students. While teaching lessons to the students, I was
able to strengthen my background in many aspects of modern American
history and present it to the students to increase their knowledge. This
allowed me to grow as an educator and also showed me that there will
also be new information that I can present to the students to make the
material more relevant for them.

III

Knowledge of Learner
Goal: I will adjust the pace of the lesson/unit on the response of the
students and their understanding of the material presented.
Procedure: I will accomplish goal by waiting for a response when asking
questions, but by also looking at daily assessments and revisiting topics
when needed, this will provide accommodation for all students.
Evaluation: I will evaluate this goal by checking their daily work and also
by how many times students needed to be called on, rather than

voluntarily giving an answer. This will provide me information on of they

were confident in their answer or not.
Reflection: I feel that this was one of the more important goals that was
set before the experience. I say this because if as a teacher you do not
recognize if the students are learning the material and just continue to
lecture without breaks for questions, you can talk over the students and
leave them in the dust with no idea where the lesson is going or what they
are supposed to be learning about. While going through all my lessons, I
was sure to stop and ask questions on key figures and events, but also to
see what they thought on certain events and maybe what they would have
done differently. This allowed for the students to get involved in the lesson
while also helping them build critical thinking skills. I do feel that I have
reached my goal of adjusting the pace of the class when needed in
response to class feedback as stated before; I feel that this is essential to
any teaching because you need to make sure that students understand
the material before moving forward so that no student is left behind not
knowing the material.
IV

Knowledge of Pedagogy
Goal: I will state the theorists in my lessons, to better understand where
my students are at and understand the most effective ways to teach.
Procedure: I will accomplish this goal by knowingly using different theorist
throughout my lesson plans; this will expand my knowledge and give me a
better understanding of all the theories that exist in the education world.
Evaluation: I will evaluate this goal by making a list of the theorist that I
am aware of before going into the field and then making a list after and

comparing them to see what new knowledge was gained through the
experience.
Reflection: I believe that I was able to reach this goal during my
experience because while creating lessons for the students, I used
different techniques to get them interested and involved in the lesson
based on the different theorists. I did this because the theorist gave me
background on what the students might be going through during this time
in their lives and how to best teach them, such as cooperative learning.
Also by using these strategies, I was able to find out new ideas of how to
teach different concepts to the students, which benefited both them as the
student to better understand the material, but also me as the teacher to
carry some of the different techniques forward when teaching future

lessons.
Knowledge of Self as a Teacher and Member of a Learning Community
Goal: I will demonstrate professional behavior when interacting with
coworkers, administration and students in all aspects of teaching.
Procedure: I will accomplish this goal by keeping record of all my
interactions while in the field. This will give me a record of how I would
grow from the beginning and to the end, and will allow for me to become
more comfortable in the environment.
Evaluation: I will evaluate this goal by reflecting back on my records and
seeing how my interactions changed throughout the experience and how I
grew to be more confident or not. This will allow me to see any growth
through the experience.
Reflection: This, I feel, is one of the hardest goals to measure in that it is
how you interact not only with the students but also with your coworkers or

fellow teachers around you. As I began my experience, I was very nervous

on how I would be received by the professional staff and how I would
come off as a professional. Looking back through my encounters, I do feel
that I did reach this goal of being professional with students, coworkers,
and administration. I did this by dressing professionally every day, but also
in the way that I would communicate with them by always speaking in a
professional tone using their correct title, such as Mr. or Ms. Also during
my experience I was able to attend professional development days which I
feel gave me great knowledge and insight on certain areas to continue to
improve on and how to approach different situations that could possible
arise. All these opportunities gave me the chance to both grow as a
teacher but also as a member of a professional learning community that is
there for the betterment of the students.
