DEVELOPMENTAL PROCEDURES

What region of the United States is the music from? What elements can be heard in the
music?
2. Students will read about the Hispanic culture of Texas on The Hispanic Culture in the
United States. This will be followed by a Think-Pair-Share activity in which the student
discusses what they read with a partner and shares with the class during a class
discussion. Why is Hispanic culture so prevalent in Texas? How is the history of Texas
tied to Mexico? In what ways is the Hispanic culture still evident in Texas today? What
Hispanic holidays are celebrated heavily in Texas? What are the misconceptions related
to some of the Hispanic traditions?
3. The students will complete a smart notebook activity for which they must come up to the
Smart board and match the word with the description. When do Texans celebrate the
Battle of Puebla? What competitive sport arose from cattle herding in Mexico? What war
was caused by the annexation of Texas? In what holiday, are the lives of the deceased
celebrated? With what act did Mexico finally recognize that Texas was part of the United
States?
4. The students will complete an online exit ticket on the lesson. What is one important
thing that you learned today? Has todays lesson changed your views of the Hispanic
culture in Texas and in what way? What aspect of the Hispanic culture in Texas would
you like to learn more about?
