Your reflection about the lesson, including evidence(s) of student learning and engagement, as well as ideas for improvement
for next time. (Write this after teaching the lesson, if you had a chance to teach it. If you did not teach this lesson, focus on the
process of preparing the lesson.)
I am unsure how the students will feel about this lesson. I know I did not have the most fun preparing it, but I thought that a
web quest is a good way get students to begin bringing all the information together to a tidy ending. I am excited for the
students to write their 1989 newspaper articles supporting or criticizing the outgoing president, I enjoyed coming up with
that part of the lesson and I hope the students enjoy writing the article. I look forward to reading their responses.

Introduction
In the 1980 presidential election, it seemed that the United States was ready for Ronald Reagan.
The two previous decades had seen turmoil, war, economic troubles, and weakening political
influence abroad. Ronald Reagan's homespun values and promises to restore Americans' faith in
the government appealed to many voters, and they gave him a decided victory. During his two
terms in office, he proposed increased military spending, decreased taxes, and reduced
government control. Did his presidency deliver on his campaign promises? Draw your own
conclusions after visiting this Web site about American presidents.
Directions
Start at the The Presidents Web site.

Click on the picture of Reagan, and then select a topic on the left side of the page. Be sure to visit
the "Domestic Policy" topic to review Reagan's views on tax cuts and the "Foreign Affairs" topic to
review his speech about the Iran-contra affair.
Browse through the site, taking notes as you go.

1. Characterize Reaganomics and its impact on the national economy.
9-15-14

2. What effect did the economic program have on the federal deficit?

3. How did Reagan's views of the Soviet Union influence his foreign policy?

http://reagan.procon.org/
Using this web site, answer the question and determine whether Reagan was a good President based on your own concepts of what it means to be a good president and a non-biased account
of the events of his presidency. Answer in a paragraph or two (connect Reagans presidency and
policies as a turning point in American Political history), this information will be used to help you
in the activity during the next classs activity
Have the students write a newspaper article from 1989 as Reagan is leaving office, can be
favorable of the president or critical #FreedomOfThePress!
