Welcome to AP Spanish Language and Culture for 2016 2017! I am
so excited you will be joining me as we experience more of the
Spanish language and related cultures. As you have already noticed
as a motivated language learner, the study of another language is
more than just language. This course will also challenge you across
many disciplines including geography, history, economics, science,
and more. Specifically, this course addresses the following themes:
Beauty and Aesthetics, Personal and Public Identities, Family and
Communities, Global Challenges, Contemporary Life, Science and
Technology
As this is an AP course, we must maintain/increase our proficiency
levels this summer. The following tasks are necessary to make sure
we are ready to go when August arrives.
a. Register on www.remind.com, once you receive my link.
b. The Ultimate Spanish Review and Practice: Read and complete
chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 16, 17, and 22. All work must be
completed by Friday, August 12, 2016.
c. Interpretive practice Listening & Reading (3 hours per week):
You must keep an activity log on the blog of at least 3 hours of
Spanish language video/podcasts/television you listen to, and
news you read. For each entry, provide (1) a summary (2) new
information you learned (can be new words, etc.), (3) the link to
the source, and (4) a statement telling under which of our
themes your entry falls. Your first entry is due June 3, 2016, and
must be completed every week. The final entry is due on July
29, 2016.
d. Interpersonal and Presentational Speaking practice: Leave a
voicemail recording every two weeks. For the first voicemail
(June 3), use the recording and prompts. (This is how the
interpersonal speaking section of the exam is structured.) For
the remaining voicemails, simply tell me what youve been up to
during those two weeks (I expect I3 minimum performance.
(Details, Details, Details! ) For these remaining recordings, you
are also welcome to record a conversation between you and
another classmate. Again, I3 minimum performance. The due
dates are as follows: June 3, June 17, July 1, July 15, July 29.

e. Review useful phrases, which include expressions, transitions,

accountable talk, and some exam phrases.
f. Familiarize yourself with the AP exam rubrics
It is my expectation that all assignments are completed on time --- and
YES! In case you were wondering all assignments are to be
completed in Spanish . These tasks will be graded and will begin
grading for Q1 in August. Please keep in mind the above tasks are the
minimum. Practice as much as you can during the summer
especially speaking and listening. Please feel free to email me if you
have any questions. Divirtanse!
