Title of Selection: Annotated Bibliography

Danielson Framework
Domain 1: Planning and Preparation
Domain 1 of the Danielson Framework focuses on the planning and preparation that
educators do in order to successfully design and implement classroom instruction. The artifact I
chose to include in my showcase portfolio as my Domain 1 artifact is the annotated bibliography
I created in CI 5363, Strategies for Improving Secondary Teaching. In this class, I learned
different strategies that I could use as to make my teaching more effective and improve student
learning. This assignment was given to us during week three of this class to teach us how to
investigate, research, and identify educational technology resources and tools that we could use
as educators in our classrooms. One of the requirements of the annotated bibliography
assignment was that we had to research and select five teacher-centered technology tools, five
student-centered technology tools, and five subject-specific content enhancement sites, and since
my background is in accounting, I chose tools that I would use in an accounting class. I chose to
include this assignment as my Domain 1 artifact because I did very well on it, and I feel that it
reflects several of the components of Domain 1: knowledge of the students (1b), knowledge of
resources (1d), and designing coherent instruction (1e). I believe that each of the tools that I have
selected will help me plan, prepare, and implement classroom instruction more effectively, as
well as, enhance, support, and improve student learning.
Component 1e of the Danielson Framework states, Planning requires teachers to
understand the characteristics of the students they teach and the active nature of students
learning. And, component 1b states, In order to ensure student learning, teachers must know
not only their content and its related pedagogy but also the students to whom they wish to teach
that content. Four of the student-centered tools I chose were mobile apps; everywhere I look
students are always on their cell phones, so I wanted to find tools that would be more appealing
to students, that students could connect with, and that students would be more likely to use as a
part of their learning. One of the mobile apps I chose was the Accounting Dictionary-Lite;
accounting has a unique set of terminology and this mobile app has over 4,300 accountancy
terms, definitions, and abbreviations that students can quickly and easily refer to as they are
learning accounting. Another mobile app I chose was the SMU Accounting Challenge; this
accounting app has 1,000 accounting questions for students to answer. Students try to correctly

answer as many questions as they can in 100 seconds to accumulate points. This app contains a
leader board so students can see how they are doing against other students which will encourage
them to play more in order to achieve higher scores, and because this app can be downloaded on
any mobile device students can play at any time.
I feel that the annotations I chose in the teacher-centered technology tools and the
subject-specific content enhancement sites reflect both Danielson Framework component 1d and
1e. Component 1d states, Student learning is enhanced by a teachers skillful use of resources.
Some of these are provided by the school as official materials; others are secured by teachers
through their own initiativeresources for teachers to further their own professional knowledge
and skills. And, component 1e states, Designing coherent instruction is the heart of planning,
reflecting the teachers knowledge of content and the students in the class, the intended outcomes
of instruction, and the available resources. As an educator, I feel that it is very important that I
know how to locate sources that are both relevant and useful outside of school provided sources,
such as textbooks, to aid me in lesson planning and class preparation, and to meet the diverse
learning needs of all of my students. Websites such as Education Planet by Lesson Planet has
videos on the latest educational technology, how to use this technology, and ideas on how to
implement this technology in the classroom. And, there is also a Community page which is a
teaching-related discussion forum page where teachers can communicate and share ideas with
other professionals in teaching. Also, The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
(AICPA) has a page on their website dedicated to accounting education that contains articles and
other resources for educators and students. There is also a new interactive website titled Start
Here, Go Places just for students and educators. This website has lots of information to help
students learn more about the accounting profession, and an educators portal designed to help
educators prepare students for a career in accounting. There is an interactive game called Bank
on It designed to put the students knowledge to the test in a real working-world way as well as
other resources for educators to use in the classroom.
I found this assignment to be both useful and meaningful; and, I have used many of the
tools I located in this assignment on several projects and assignments that I have prepared in
other classes. This is also an assignment that I plan use in my classroom to help my students
learn how to locate and identify resources and technology tools that they can use to help them

and support them in their learning. In order to be a more effective teacher and to meet the diverse
learning needs of all of my students, I need to have different tools that I can use when planning,
preparing, and implementing my instruction. I feel that the resources I have located and
identified in my annotated bibliography will give me the tools I need to be a better teacher, and
will help me differentiate my instruction to accommodate the learning needs of all of my
students. I will continue to use, maintain, and build on this annotated bibliography as a tool to
help me in my classroom by adding new annotations, such as the National Business Education
Association (NBEA) website; the NBEA is a professional organization devoted exclusively
to serving individuals and groups engaged in instruction, administration, research, and
dissemination of information for and about business.
