Theduodenum,intowhichthestomachopens,isabout25cmlong,Cshapedand
beginsatthepyloricsphincter.Itisalmostentirelyretroperitonealandisthemost
fixedpartofthesmallintestine.
Theduodenumis
describedashavingfour
parts:
1.Partone,superiorpart
(SD)
2.Parttwo,descending
part(DD)
3.Partthree,horizontal
part(HD)
4.partfour,ascending
part(AD)
Thefourthpartofthe
duodenumterminatesatthe
duodenojejunalflexureDJF
withthejejunum.
TheligamentofTreitzisa
musculofibrousbandthat
extendsfromtheupper
aspectoftheascendingpart
oftheduodenumtothe
rightcrusofthediaphragm
andtissuearoundtheceliac
artery.
