Better Know a Believer

A few years ago, late night comedian Stephen Colbert had a running segment entitled
Better Know a District, highlighting ordinary congressional districts from around the
country (including the Kansas 2nd!), and sharing some of their more extraordinary qualities. As our worship team began its planning last summer, some yearned for a opportunity to understand some of the more ordinary characters in Scripture, and perhaps
learn of their more extraordinary qualities. After all, we know about Moses and Elijah
and Peter, but what about some of the other lesser-known figures? As it turns out, God
has used quite an array of ordinary women and men, and in better knowing their stories, we might even find that God could use us!

Finance/Facilities Update
The Facilities and Finance Ministries have been busy over the course of the last few
months!
We continue making payments to the bank as a part of our Capital Campaign.
Thank you to those who are generous in their partnership to realize this important
vision! The five-year campaign is due to end in November 2017, and the Finance
Ministry has already begun to talk about the transition into the debt retirement
phase of the Campaign.
We sold the bus to a church in Missouri. Through several months of conversation,
we weighed the pros and cons of keeping a vehicle (and paying for both insurance
and rising maintenance costs) vs. renting a vehicle for youth trips, etc. when needed.
The Finance and Facilities Ministries and SLT discussed it over several meetings
and decided upon the latter, and so the money from the sale will go into a permanent fund that will be used to rent vehicles for trips when needed (for the next several years). Thanks to those whose gracious gift toward the purchase of this vehicle
continues to provide transportation for our church for years into the future!
Finally, we continue to talk about the last couple of projects in the original vision
for the Capital Campaign: Chairs and A/V upgrades. During Sundays Quarterly
Business Gathering, we reported that the SLT is moving forward with plans to order sanctuary chairs to replace the old ones, largely due to issues of safety and stability of the original chairs. The total cost for 250 chairs will be $15,225, and we are
currently collecting gifts for that purchase (please mark Chair Fund on your
check). Meanwhile, we are also moving forward on the project to install permanent
one or two projectors in the sanctuary. The tech team has met with a company
who would be able to install them, and are awaiting a price estimate. We are collecting gifts toward that project as well (Projector Fund), but know that financing in
conjunction with our current loan will also be possible for that expense. Both of
these are important goals as we complete our vision for Building Hospitality at First
Baptist.
Thanks for your support and prayers for the ministries of Facilities and Finance in
our congregation!
