My students in the 4th grade class will learn about the history
and importance of budgeting and saving.

Unit Summary
Lessons will cover the history of money and its evolution over time as well as the
characteristics that make money useful. Students will learn the definition of money, its history,
and its characteristics. The activities will allow students to access helpful links and videos to
further their knowledge about money.The savings and investing lesson is compromised of
simple math calculations to help student be able to visually see how interest rates work and
how savings accounts can be beneficial for long term savings. The lesson will also introduce
the students to the stock market and the ways in which they can invest their money in the
stock market to start saving for their retirement. Not only will the students engage in a stock
market activity, but they will have the opportunity to witness how stock prices fluctuate daily
and be able to see the risks involved. Lesson Three is on the topic in regards to budgeting.
The main concepts learned would be defining terms such as budget, income, and expenses.
The activities help by giving the students a hands on approach and helping them visually
understand the financial concepts of this unit plan.
