AfterreadingtheframeworkforHistorySocialScience,theknowledgeIwouldneedin
ordertoteachHistory/SocialScienceinelementaryschoolistohaveageneralunderstandingof
variousareassuchashumanities,history,geographyandsocialsciences.Thisneedstobe
learnedthroughtheuseofprimaryandsecondarysources,informationaltexts,andliterature.
Studentswillneedtobeabletoexplorevariousperspectiveswhenanalyzingcontent.In
addition,studentswillalsoneedtoanalyzecauseandeffectsofeventsthatoccurredinaspecific
timeperiod.Asafutureteacher,Ihavetobeableteachandhelpmystudentsdevelopcritical
thinkingskills,beabletoanalyzecontentusingdifferentperspectivesandtrytounderstandwhat
peopleenduredduringthattime.MydutyasateacheristoensurethatIhaveallthecontent
neededbeforeteachingmystudentsbecauseIwillneedtoteachtheunitseffectively.The
frameworkforHistorySocialScienceshowstheimportanceofteachingstudentsaccordingly,
everygradelevelensuresthatstudentswillhavesomeunderstandingbeforefurtherdeveloping
thecontentinlatergrades.ItishighlybeneficialformetoreviewandresearchtheareaswhereI
feellessprepared.AsaneducatorIhavetobeawareofhowmystudentslearnandcreatelesson

becauseafterreadingtheFrameworkIwasabletorecalltheinformationthatIlearnedinthose

becauseIlearnedhowtoanalyzeinformationaboutCaliforniaMissions.Inaddition,Ilearned
howtoanalyzeprimaryandsecondarysourcesinordertohelpmewriteanargumentativeessay.
Mostimportantly,theprofessortaughttheclasshowtoteachCaliforniaHistorytostudentswith
examplesonlessonssheteaches.TakingHistory301:TheIndividual,Family,andCommunity,
taughtmehowtowritearesearchpaperwhereIneededtofindprimaryandsecondarysources
thatwouldserveastextualevidencetosupportmyarguments.Obtainingtheseskillswillhelp
measateacherbecauseitwillensurethatIwillrecognizeprimaryandsecondarysourcesthat
studentscananalyze.IalsotookGeography350:WorldGeography,andIfeellikeitprepared
meespeciallyafterreadingthestandardsbecauseIwillneedtoteachstudentshowtoreadand
understandmapsandtheirscales.Inaddition,takingHistory120:WorldHistorytaughtme
informationthatIwillbeteachingstudents.Overall,IbelievethattheclassesIhavetakenhave
givenmetheknowledgeIneedtoteachelementarystudents.
TheareathatIfeelwellpreparedisCaliforniaHistorybecauseLBS375taughtmethe
contentIneededtoknowforteachingfourthgraders.TheotherareasthatIfeelpreparedare
Geography,teachingstudentsaboutthecommunitiesaroundthem,andtheimportantjobsof
citizensinthecommunity,governmentalinstitutionsalongwithpracticesintheUnitedStates,
explainingheroesfromthepastandtoday.TheareaswhereIfeellesspreparedareinthecontent
standardsoffifthgrade.Especially,settlingthetransAppalachianWest,LifeintheYoung
Republic,andLifeinNewEngland.InordertogainbetterunderstandinthoseareasIwillneed
tolookatthecontentstandardsandreviewthematerialneededinordertoeffectivelyteach
studentswhattheywillneedtoknow.EvenintheareaswhereIfeelthemostconfidentIwill
needtoreviewandgainmoreknowledgetobeabletoteachmystudents.Reviewingthematerial

isbeneficialformebecauseitwillrefreshmymemoryandIwillbeabletocomeupwithlesson
plansoractivitiesthatcanfurtherdevelopstudentsunderstanding.
