Personal Reflection
This semester has been one for the books. I was in three major
education classes that were grueling both academically and field
placement wise, that being said, I have to say it has been one of the
most helpful semesters Ive ever taken. From classroom management
I have learned how to deal with the many situations one has to deal
with when he/she is teaching. Although my hands on experience
doesnt outweigh my time in class experience, I have to say that I am
very well equipped for my future teaching career.
One area where Ive learned the most has to be the strategies. I
have found out what it means to have a toolbox of different
instructional tools to use and am excited to get to use them in the
future. Some of these tools include, active learning, inquiry-based
instruction, think pair share, and the many different procedural
processes of the classroom.
One thing that surprised me was the amount of procedures that
occur in the classroom. I have never thought about the many
procedures that need explaining and the many different ways teachers
go about handling these procedures. When it comes to my own
theories about procedures, I believe that I will be rather relaxed about
some of the less important procedures. For example, I plan to be
pretty relaxed about bathroom privileges and gradinghear me out

before you ream me out. I plan to use formative assessment for every
daily homework assignment and not actually take them as a grade in
the grade book. I will focus more of their grade on summative
assessments such as essays, papers and projects. I think this will be a
better representation of their final grade and their knowledge as whole
rather than smaller assignments. Plus this will be more like college
and the ultimate goal is to prepare them for that.
Overall, this semester has opened my eyes to a whole different
world of education. I have found myself time and time again learning
more about myself and about the field of education as a whole. I have
learned what it takes to become a teacher and how to manage a class.
I have stocked up on tools that well equip me to be a teacher. I have
developed a website that displays my knowledge and I have learned
the legal issues behind education. This semester has proved beneficial
and I am excited to take my knowledge to the next step, the
classroom.
