Distribution of Electrical Power
1- A 2-wire D.C. distributor AB is 200m long. The resistance of each conductor
is 0.4 /km. It supplies loads of 20, 30, 25 and 30 amps. at points C, D, E and F
at 50, 80, 100 and 140 m from the end A. If the potential difference of 250 V is
maintained
i- at point A.
ii- at point B.
Calculate for each case:
(a) The potential difference at each load point,
(b) The power consumption of each load,
(c) Distribution efficiency.
2- A 2-wire D.C. distributor AB in 320 m long. The loads are tapped off as
follow:
Distance from A in m 60 120 200 260
Load current in amps. 20 30
25
40
The total resistance = 0.12 . Determine the voltage distribution if:
(a) The system is fed from both ends at the same potential of 220 V.
(b) The voltage of feeding point A is maintained at 236 V and feeding point B
at 235 V.
3- A 2-wire D.C. distributor AB in 1000m long. Both ends are supplied at 250 V
supplying loads of 30, 50, 80 and 40 amps at points C, D, E and F at 100, 300,
700 and 900 m from the end A. If the minimum allowable consumer's voltage is
245 V, calculate the cross section of each conductor. Resistivity is 1.7 .cm .
4- A 2-wire D.C. distributor AB 960m long. A voltage of 220 V is being
maintained at both ends A and B. Concentrated loads of 60, 100, and 80 amps
are supplied at points C, D and E at 200, 480 and 860 m from the end A. The
total loop resistance is 0.16. Calculate: The point of minimum potential and its
value and the current supplied by each end.
