Tuning Protocol
This is an assignment for academic vocabularies course (ESL).
Prior to being given the assignment students will have read and found the
definition from the dictionary. In the beginning of each week, the students
will be given a list of 30 words and they will find the definitions. On the
following days, the students will understand the meaning of those 30 words,
and they will be examined about what they are taught during the week.
Here is the assignment.
hold the definitions cards. Then teacher will start reading first definition
randomly. When students heard a definition, they will start looking for the
word. The student who raise his/her hand and he/ she will say the word. In
this time, teacher will ask the student to put the word he/she found in a
sentence, and finally, synonym. During this activity, teacher will notice the
students who need some help in these words by using a sheet. Based on the
last activity, teacher will divide students into two groups, and he/she will
make a balance for each group. Teacher will let students name their group.
For example, group1 is Tigers, group 2 is Falcons. Then, teacher will give
each group cards. For example, teacher will give falcons words cards that
their definitions will be with Tigers and vice versa. So, the last activity will be
as a competition and there is a winner and loser. The Tigers' group will read
the definition and Falcons will read the word and vice versa. Again, teacher
will ask the group to put the word he/she found in a sentence In this time,
teacher will put one point on front of each group that get the right word and
right sentence or half point if the group get one of them.
