1) The musical composition I choose would be all the songs from the

movie grease. The way they made a movie a musical but still
translated the scenes is how I see songs coming to play in writing. The
rhyming lines coming together in a song to tell a story is the perfect
example for how songs and musical compositions communicate
writing. Each scene had a different musical telling all about what was
happening in that scene showing different emotions coming from all
the characters each time. In musicals like this it is important to pay
attention to detail because what they are singing are their lines and
how they are communicating. The big picture also plays apart but
detail and emotion says it all.
2) If I were to teach this class I would emphasis the three modes of
persuasion: ethos, pathos, and logos. I would teach ethos to be known
as the credibility and reliability of a source. The appeal to authority is a
term I would cover under ethos. Sources are only credible if the author
is credible and experienced in the field of work they are writing about. I
would teach pathos to be related to appealing to ones emotions.
People are drawn to one side when sympathy is offered. To be
successful in appealing to pathos, values and beliefs of the audience
should be considered. I would teach logos to be known as the appeal to
logic or reason. Statistics always gives the audience a sense that the
author has complete understanding.

3) My rhetorical knowledge had changed over this past semester because

I now think of both sides of an argument when writing my paper. I
include both the they say and I say within my work to show the
argument that is going on and to give meaning to my paper. If I was to
only include my opinions, it wouldnt be an inquiry proposal, it would
just be a piece of paper with my thoughts written down. Including what
my critics think explains why I am writing my paper. I also understand
to not stray from the purpose of my paper. I used to start to go on and
on about a topic in my paper that had nothing to do with my thesis
which really confused my readers. Now I make sure that whatever I talk
about pertains to the purpose of my paper is a certain way. Another
thing that Ive learned to do is writing in a formal tone and an informal
tone. I used to always mix my tones together and it would sound
horrible. Now that I keep either a formal tone, or a informal tone, my
papers are better structured and sound a lot better.
4) My critical thinking has improved in many ways. For example, reading
comprehension assignments I have learned to work smarter not harder.
Reading the questions first looking for connections in the text really
helps speed the process up rather than reading the whole passage
then going to the questions and trying to remember where the answer
was during the text. During large assignments that take lots of reading
and time I have improved but paying attention to the important part of
text instead of stressing about reading the whole passage. Each
passage is different. Some passages focus on detail and structure

therefore I have learned to look for patterns in the text to make sure I
grasp all the signs and small parts of the text. Others focus on the big
picture so for passages like these I focus on not getting caught up in
the details but focusing on the main message or reasoning for the
reading. Knowing the outside details about a passage has also helped
my critical reading. For example, knowing the reason behind the text
by the authors story or maybe even knowing the type of crowd or age
group the author is targeting can really help me understand the
readings better. Before this semester I focused on reading the text as
fast as I could not be paying any attention or the type of passage or
the reasoning behind it. I did not understand half of the things that
were written. Yet when I started to break down what I was reading a
whole knew perspective came to me and I did not misinterpret the text
anymore making discussing the readings more efficient and beneficial.
5) My composing process was that I first picked a topic I enjoyed so that I
could easily write about it. I choose the NFL because I have always
enjoyed football and wanted to research deeper into the sport. I then
thought of a topic relating to the league that I was most unfamiliar
with. Once I started to research about the NFL rigging their games, it
sparked my interest and made me look even deeper into information.
Once I found something interesting, it would force me to look up other
scenarios relating to that certain subject. Another example that made
me further my research was when I was watching the Super Bowl and I
could just tell something didnt seem right. I then begun to research

about Peyton Manning and the Broncos franchise. Also, having the
small group conferences with my peers really helped me come up with
ideas to write about. I wanted to use their ideas and helpful hints
because I wanted my paper to interest my readers and including their
ideas would help that a lot.
6) My knowledge of conventions would be the difference between MLA
formatting and APA formatting. MLA is more basic and APA is more
professional with in text citations and an abstract page including key
words. APA is mostly used for phycology classes and more social
sciences. MLA is usually the first type of writing students are taught
during grade school. The typical 12-point font, 1 inch margins, times
new roman, and the same throughout the whole paper. With APA each
page is the same but there are different parts to each page. The first
page has a different header than the rest along with an abstract. Every
page is number along with the resource page that is different from MLA
citations. One different is how APA says Retrieved from then has a
link to the website allowing easier access to the site used. Another
would be always using the same tenses. An example would be writing
I read a book, I ate an apple and I went to school. Instead of I read
a book, I ate an apple and I am going to school. Using the same
person is also one thing I always focus on. If I start a paper in first
person, I make sure to end in first person. Same thing with second and
third person.

7) A) The importance of reflecting on your own paper is to show yourself

what you need to improve on for the 2nd and 3rd drafts before the paper
is actually ready to be turned in. If one doesnt add a reflection, he/she
does not know what to change or fix when editing the paper. A
reflection is a good reminder to work that needs to be done in the
future. Constructive criticism from others is good for a paper, but some
of the best criticism comes from inside your own brain.
B) When adding commentary on a peers work, you should not try to
dig super deep into the paper and pick out every mistake because that
is the writers job. One should add comments to what would make the
paper better whether it be adding something or taking out a part of the
paper that doesnt make sense. While reading a peers work, think
about if it was your paper and what you would do to edit it to make it
better. When receiving commentary have a light heart on the
comments. Your peers are only trying to help so dont take anything
the wrong way if it seems like they are murdering your paper. In the
end, it is the writers choice of whether or not he/she will take the
advice.
C) There have been times when peers have told me to take out parts of
my paper because it didnt sound very interesting. I didnt take much
thought about this comment because even if it doesnt sound
interesting to one person, it could interest others. It was also about a
subject that I enjoyed learning about so I wanted to keep it. There have
also been times when peers have asked a little too much of me by

asking me to research more on a topic that had very little information.

Its hard to write about something when there arent solid facts. I have
also been asked to possibly change my title. I didnt take this advice
because I believe that a title should catch the eyes of the readers and I
believed mine did just that.
