My Evaluation

Q3) What kind of media institution

might distribute your media product
and why?

The Big Six

The big six is the term given to the major
Hollywood film institutions who collectively
dominate 80.6% of the market.
I would like a media institution from the
big six to distribute my film because they
have the largest budgets, which will enable
them to have access to the best media
equipment and visual effects . This will be
important in the film opening for grabbing
the audiences attention straight away.

Warner Bros. Pictures

Paramount Pictures
Sony/ Columbia Pictures
20th Century Fox
Walt Disney Company
Universal Studios

20th Century Fox prefer to distribute

horror films rather than to produce
them.
Examples of their distributed horror
films are; From Hell, Alien and Shutter.
Their most successful films are comedy
and family genre based.
For example; Alvin and the Chipmunks,
Night At The Museum and Star Wars.

th

The information on the previous slide

suggests that 20th century Foxs
already existing distributed horror
films have been successful.
However, I feel like 20th Century Fox
are stronger in producing films that
are of another genre to horror, and for
this reason, I do not think they would
be suitable tot distribute The Visit.

Warner Bros
Warner Bros distribute films of a
number of genres; such as comedy,
romance action and horror.
Examples of their horror films include
Friday the 13th and One Missed Call.
Warner Bros seem to be more
successful within the horror genre in
comparison to 20th Century Fox.

Universal Pictures
Films distributed by Universal Pictures
tend to be from the drama, romance
and adventure genres rather than
horror.
Universal Pictures do not tend to take
risks by distributing films from other
genres such as horror in the chance it
is not successful leading to a low
profit or even a loss.

Universal Pictures
Examples of some of the few horror
films distributed by Universal
Pictures are; Drag me to Hell and The
Strangers.
Because of their lack of experience
with distributing horror films, I do not
think that Universal Pictures would
be a suitable distributor for The
Visit.

In Conclusion
After looking at some of the big sixs
experience with horror films and their
successfulness in the past with
existing products, I conclude that
out of 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros
and Universal Pictures, that 20th
Century Fox would be the best suited
in distributing The Visit .
