Third Grade
1. Bangity Wangity Wapsy Boom
Objective: SWBAT accurately perform entire song.
Procedures:
- Students stand up
- Teacher gives a ready-sing
- Students perform entire song
Assessment: Students accurately perform entire song.
2. Triple Rhythm Patterns
Objective: SWBAT create triple rhythm patterns using predetermined tempo and meter beats.
Procedures:
- Students review rhythm patterns with flashcards
- Each student is handed a different rhythm pattern (meter beats, tempo beat)
- Students will be put into groups of 4
- Students are instructed to use all four patterns each member received and arrange them
- Once students have created their pattern, they are instructed to perform their own
- Students will say their pattern, say and play, then perform it
Assessment: Students are assessed on accuracy of performance.
3. Swan
Objective: SWBAT perform motions to piece of music and synthesize information about form.
Procedures:
- Teacher reviews motions for parts A, B, and C with video
- Students perform motions for entire piece with live cello and piano performance
- Teacher asks questions about form, referencing order on board
- Students participate in discussion
Assessment: Students perform all motions accurately and synthesize rondo form with the Swan.
4. Monkey Business
Objective: SWBAT accurately perform first half of song.
Procedures:
- Teacher performs song 3-4 times
- Students listen specifically for certain words
- Students explain what song is about
- Students begin learning song
- Teacher sings small phrases, students echo
- Teacher sings larger phrases, students echo
- Teacher sings entire first half, students echo
- Students perform first half and teacher performs second half in context of song
Assessment: Students accurately echo and perform first half of song.
5. The Grasswalker
Objective: SWBAT perform second phrase of song.
Procedures:
- Students hear performance of song 1-2 times
- Students review first phrase of song with ready-sing from teacher
- Work phrases as needed
- Students learn second phrase of song
