‘To whomever it may concern:
Thave had the great pleasure of working for the past two years with Ryan Franke in her
capacity as first grade teacher at Ginter Park Elementary here in Richmond, She is truly
one of the best.
When I think of Ryan, the first thing that comes to mind is her determination. That and
hher compassionate attention in getting the material across to each and every child. Most
first graders everywhere love their teacher, but some teachers connect more with their
students than others and Ryan's connection is deep and special, For her teaching is a very
personal thing, in many senses.
‘Teaching at Ginter Park Elementary, an inner-Richmond school, is an especially tough
gig right now. We have been in a "school improvement” plan under mandate- for three
years now. Hopetully this will be our last year. Our scores have improved dramatically
‘both years--best improvement in the city--but it seems that once a school is under the
mandate you get all the way to the decreed goal line "or else." Even our most experienced
1nd excellent teachers are feeling enormous pressure and stress from wave after Wave of
increased expectations and new initiatives. But if you want someone with qualities of a
‘Navy Seal, best to get someone who has been through the Navy Seal experience
With Ryan Franke you would be getting an excellent skilled teacher, still at the beginning
of her career, but through the initial "total immersion” years that tip up and discourage
so many. She has stood the test and come out ready to go ~ and to lead.
