LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF

SEWING KITS
Teach a person to sew and youve given
them tools they can use to earn an income,
support their family, and break out of
poverty. Many of the Fabric Kits Lutheran
World Relief distributes are used to teach
young men and women useful and
marketable sewing skills.

Please give new items only

Please do not donate items with any

religious symbols, any items decorated
with a U.S. flag, patriotic or military
symbols, or references to the armed
forces, including camouflage.

Fabric should have no stains or holes.

Pieces do not need to match in size or
color/pattern. Fold thread and one piece
of fabric inside second fabric piece and
tie with yarn, sturdy string, ribbon or a
strip of fabric.
Include in your kit:
* 2 spools of neutral-colored thread
* 2 pieces of cotton fabric (no knits or
100% polyester) measuring:
2 1/4 yds (60) or
3 yds (44) or
4 yds (36)

Now that we have our new audio console installed,

we need volunteer sound operators to run it. Our
hired heroes Justin Murphy and Spencer
Dagerman have learned the new system and are
eager to teach you how great it is. By mid-May, we
will need volunteers at all three services ready to
take over. If you are interested, contact John
Skogstoe or the church office, or visit with John,
Justin, or Spencer.

If you are a
graduating senior,
wed like to celebrate
with you!
Please mail,
email (midgehe@cableone.net), or bring a
picture of yourself to the church office and
well celebrate with you on May 15 @ the
8:30 am worship (No cap or gown necessary).

Annual Clean the Fellowhsip

Kitchen Day
Monday, May 2nd @ 9 AM.
ALL HELP APPRECIATED!

Beginning this week,

four First Communion
classes will be made
available for any
baptized youth whose
parents have discerned
that their children are ready to receive the
Lords Supper for the first time.
Class times:
Wednesday, May 4, 2:30-3:30pm
5-6pm
May 11, 2:30-3:30pm
5-6 pm.
All classes will be held in the sanctuary.
These classes are open to children and adults
of any age. Attendance is required at only one
class. Families must RSVP their intent on
attending a class no later than noon of the day
of the class by calling the church office (402371-1985) or by registering online. If no RSVPs
are receive, that class will not be held. If these
times do not work for a family, Pastor Justin
will help schedule a personalized time as
scheduling allows. In each hour-long class, we
will review how God loves us and that God
feeds us, using stories from the Spark Story
Bible. Students will also practice and learn how
communion is received at St. Johns and other
churches. It is strongly preferred that children
attend the class with their parent(s).
Baptized children of God at St. John's who
attend a May 2016 First Communion Class will
be invited to receive First Communion on May
14 or 15 as we celebrate Pentecost. If this
weekend does not work for a family, please be
in conversation with Pastor Justin or Pastor
David to discuss other options.
We look forward to celebrating First
Communion with the families of those
baptized young people who will be taking part
in the Lord's Supper for the first time.

Thank you so
very, very much
for all the
prayers and
concerns after
our fire. Thanks to the Mens ChristCare
and Ron Benson who came out on a very
cold morning to get things ready for
restoration. Thanks for all the delicious
meals, cash and gift cards. We feel so very
blessed to be a part of a very loving and
caring congregation.
Roger & Alice Gentzler
ADDED NOTE: We have perennials to give
away. Just give us a call @ 371-7105

Shortly after we set and

approved our budgets for
this year, St. John's Council
learned of two urgent needs.
The wireless microphones
used by the pastors and
worship assistants are 10
years old and in bad
shape. In addition, the pipe
organ needs strengthened
supports for the larger pipes
to prevent sagging and
eventual failure. The council acted on faith to
immediately commit to both projects which saves
a considerable amount of money.
Now it is time to fund both projects which total
$7,200.

The Memorial Committee has

set aside $2,000 for a fifty
cents on the dollar match.
Please choose one of three
ways to make a gift to our
Mikes & Pipes fund as you
are able: 1) Make your gift
through your regular offering
envelope, noting it on your
check or envelope. 2) Grab a
special Mikes & Pipes
envelope from the back of the
sanctuary and put your gift in it to put in the
offering plate. 3) Go online to
stjohnsnorfolk.com, click on the Donate Now
button, and give an e-gift on the Mikes & Pipes
line. Thank you for giving as generously as you
are able toward these projects.

Enjoy the ease

and convenience of giving online! Online
giving allows you at any time to set up an
automatic donation plan, change your
donation plan, or make a one-time donation.
Contributions can be debited automatically
from your checking or savings account or
processed using your credit or debit card.
Simply follow these easy steps:
1) Visit the church website at
www.stjohnsnorfolk.com
2) Click on the Donate Now button
3) Follow the onscreen instructions to
make a one-time donation or to create
an online profile and to schedule your
recurring contributions
Your automatic donation plan can also be
set up through the office. Please contact
Gail for an authorization form and a
Frequently Asked Questions flyer!

The Evangelism Team is thinking

ahead to the July 4 festivities
and the hopes of having a
St. Johns float in the parade.
If you would be interested in
helping design the float or would have a
trailer suitable for the task, please contact
Kristy Booras @ 402-371-6218
or sign todays Registration Slip to be
contacted. Thank you!

I would like to thank all my church friends

for their prayers, cards, visits & phone
calls. So nice to know others are thinking
of you and wishing you well. God has
blessed me with some kind and very
talented Doctors, and given me great hope
that all will be well. Right now I am
regaining strength and getting ready for the
next step. Hope to see you in church
soon. God Bless you all,
Carol Severa

REMINDER:
The late service will be moving into its
summer home of 10:15 AM on May 29
