Becoming a Mega-Race

Emory, VAAccording to research if this trend of interracial mixing occurs society will develop
into one huge mega-race. This might seem bazaar but there have even been cases where
individuals of same racial status have produced children of the opposite race.
People are prone to mutation of their genetic makeup, it is naturally occurring and it is by
random chance. This is a possible explanation why people of the same race are producing
children of a different color. When it comes to the human race anyone can be affected, it impacts
society, and this could also change future genetics.
Referring to the Punnett square that explains how DNA crossing works, if individuals have more
capital letters they will have more pigment. There is also the chance that children can get none of
their parents dominant genes and that is one way children of different races can occur from same
raced parents.
If a childs parents have at least some alleles and inherent as many alleles from mom and dad
thats how they can end up with more or less of these recessive genes, states Christine Fleet,
PhD. The fact of the matter is these genes are passed down from generation to generation and
just because one individual might not get it does not stop it from getting passed on continuously.
According to The Guardian the story of Sandra Laing, an African American child was born to
white parents of the racist nationalist party in the 1950s during the apartheid. After a lot of
speculation it was found out that Laing had pigment of an unknown black ancestor that was
dormant for generations but became present in Laing.
Cases like this or interracial relations in general impact society because it makes people more
open who were once close minded. According to Dr. Fleet In my lifetime I see more and more

aspects of this, it is moving towards more intermixing, helping each other know each other
better.
The National Geographic also states that in the year 2050 society will involve a multi racial
future where we will all look similar because of all the interracial mixing that is occurring. The
Pew Research Center states that in 2013 6.3 % percent of marriages in the United States alone
were from people of different races.
According to Dr. Fleet places with more diverse groups
have more chances of this occurring compared to places
like Iceland that are homogenous, the chances of
mutation are extremely rare or not at all. This type of
genetic sequence can occur because of migration,
sexual selection, natural selection, and chance.
With places that are homogenous if the trait never gets
passed on like how it is in society today that gene
becomes dormant because of no genetic mixing.
However just because increased racial mixing is
occurring in this world doesnt mean we can expect the
end to groups like gingers anytime soon. These groups
still have the possibilities of mixing together and
keeping these genes alive.
When it comes to genetic mutation it really is by chance but there arent negative side effects.
According to Dr. Fleet in fact the more genetics an individual has they tend to be more
successful.
Dr. Fleet also mentions that the mega race occurring in 2050 is highly doubtful because that is
too close from now. Genetic effects like this become beneficial for us because with tensions in
society it makes us more connected. Whether it is mutation or a new race, the world is changing
with or without us.
