Topic and Overarching Goal (what do you want the children to learn?):
Students will gain an understanding of life science through the study of changes in organisms over time and
the nature of living things.
Children will be able to recognize baby animals and their moms
Activity Description: What are you doing for your activity? Describe in very specific step-by-step detail, using
numbers or bullets. Write descriptions as if you will be giving instructions to a substitute teacher:
Transition Activity into Group Time: The kids are coming inside from outdoor time to circle time. We will sing
a song to start things off while we wait for them all to wash hands and sit down.
Song/s: Old MacDonald had a Farm
Fingerplay/s: Included in the song, a glove that has different animals on it for the song.
Book Title and Author: Baby Zoo Animals Randall, Ronne Peltzman
Discussions: We will discuss the book and the different baby animals they saw, and what they think. I will ask
things like, what types of animals did you see? Did they look like their moms?
Transitions Activity out of group time: I am going to excuse them from circle time by saying, anyone whose
favorite animal is.can find a friend and go to a center.
