Activities
Transition from rocks to Pangea through fossils: engage
the students through discussion of fossils and location
and the positions of continents. Students will begin
cutting out their Pangeas.
I hand back the paper-cliped Pangea pieces, and form
Pangaea from the evidence. Students will respond to a
prompt. Hand out Pangea concept maps. Pangea
lecture until the end of class.
Finish Pangea lecture. Alfred Wegener and Continental
Drift video. Seafloor paleomagnetism demonstration.
Prompt on paleomagnetism, seafloor spreading, and
Pangea for the rest of class. Hand out Plate Tectonics
concept map. Plate Tectonics lecture.
Water Circulation Experiment. Students the answer
questions on the lab on what they see. Finish Plate
Tectonics lecture if there is extra time.
Oreo Tectonics Activity, asking the students as a class
how I might build each boundry through the oreos oneby-one. Students will answer questions from the book.
Finish Plate Tectonics lecture and notes; begin plate
interactions powerpoint if there is extra time.
Play-doh Tectonics Activity. Visuals to guide the
students while they make the boundaries. Passed out
Mantle Convection labs to redo. Powerpoint on Plate
Interactions.
Review for quiz in each quiz. Quiz on plate tectonics,
pangea, and seafloor spreading. UKY online tutorial
and notes sheet on faults.
Finish UKY online tutorial notes sheet. Make-A-Fault
activity. Review crossword.
