Mission Statement

CELL PHONES/ELECTRONICS
Students are allowed to have cell phones and electronics.
They are only allowed to use them in the halls, at lunch, or
any other break that is non-instructional time

In each area of the school, as well as classrooms, CHAMPS
expectations are displayed describing the desired behavior
appropriate for the setting.

Attendance Policy
Each quarter, we expect every student to have at least 93% attendance
in every class, every school day and less than 3 tardies. The process of
education requires continuity of instruction, class participation, and
study. Frequent absences from classes disrupt the instructional process.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to work with the school in promoting
the regular attendance of all students. Parents should be judicious in
allowing non-attendance.

Absences

Student of the Month : Students are nominated by teachers and


staff monthly for exhibiting behavior following CHAMPS such
as: respect, responsibility, and motivation to achieve. Students
are recognized and given an award. Parents are encouraged to
attend.

Secondary students shall be considered absent from a single class if they


miss more than 15 minutes of the class and are considered absent for the
entire day if they miss more than two (2) periods/classes from the
school day.

RAMS Tickets: Students are rewarded daily with RAMS tickets


for following CHAMPS procedures throughout the school
students may exchange tickets every Friday for prizes in the
counseling center.

There may be an occasion with a valid/legitimate parental excuse that a


student can be excused from school. In the event a student will be
absent, the parents are expected to call the school before 8:30 am
or send a written note with the student when they return to school.
Late work and make-up work shall be accepted by all teachers in
accordance with the procedures established by the school.

you to your appointment:

Tardies
Students are expected to be in class on time. Tardy sweeps are conducted
every period. Teachers are expected to close their doors when the bell rings
and begin class immediately. Students who are late will go to the
attendance window to receive an admit to class slip. Excessive tardies will
be handled by the office and will follow the tardy consequence policy.

CITIZENSHIP POLICY
The purpose of having a citizenship policy is to improve behavior and
attendance at school and school sponsored activities.
The citizenship grade will be determined by a students behavior and
attendance for each class. Non class related behavior issues will affect a
students citizenship grade in advisory.
Citizenship Grades

Honors (H) = No behavior issues or a total of 1 absence/tardy per
quarter.
Satisfactory (S) = No more than two documented Level I or Level II
offenses or a total of 2-3 absences/tardies per quarter.
Needs Improvement (N) = No more than three documented Level I or
Level II offenses or 1 documented Level III offense or a total of 4
absences/tardies per quarter.
Unsatisfactory (U) = 4 or more documented Level I or Level II
offenses, more than 1 documented Level III offense, or 1 or more
documented Level IV or Level V offense or a total of 5 or more
absences/tardies per quarter.

Grading

35% of quarter grade
Class work must include a variety of assignments such as bell work,
notebook/binder checks, quizzes, group work, in-class tasks, class participation,
etc.
Summative Assessments

Summative assessments must include a variety of assignments such as tests,
embedded assessments, comprehensive writing assignments, projects, etc.

Approved by the Community Council May 13, 2015

1.

Vulgar, lewd, or plainly offensive clothing will not be worn at school. Items
advertising inappropriate material such as gambling, skulls, nicotine,
alcohol, drug products, sexually suggestive images, or violence, are a
violation of the Student Conduct Code.

2.

Screen print or embroidery is not allowed unless the image is smaller than
the size of a quarter. Patterns such as stripes, polka dots, and plaids, are
permissible.

3.

Clothing may be worn anytime representing colleges, universities and


schools/events within Ogden School District.

4.

Students MAY wear hoodies with the following conditions:


a. Hoods may not be worn in the building at any time.
b. No oversized hoodies or oversized pockets are allowed.
c. Rules 1 thru 3 must be adhered to.

5.

Bare midriffs, tank tops, halter tops or other revealing clothing will not be
worn at school, such as but not inclusive to, lace tops and shear tops, unless
worn with capped solid sleeved shirt underneath. Spaghetti straps are not
allowed. If you child raises his/her arms and any skin on the torso shows,
the shirt is too short.

Low cut shirts are not allowed.

7.

Head gear, such as caps/hats, bandannas, scarves, or sunglasses worn


indoors are not appropriate at school.

8.

Clothing appropriate for outdoor use, including but not limited to, jackets,
coats, windbreakers, and gloves will not be worn indoors.

9.

Shorts and skirts must be closer to the knee than the top of the leg. Skirt,
dress, and short length still apply even if leggings are worn underneath.

10. Pants, shorts, and skirts must fit and be worn in a reasonable manner,
without being extremely baggy, saggy, tight, or low cut

9th Grade Elective Classes


Intro to Manufacturing Tech~ Intro to Manufacturing is set up for the students to learn
the basics of wood construction, which includes hand tools, power tools, finishing and
knowledge of different construction techniques. Integrated technology assists in problem
solving. Half year


a. Tight pants, like leggings, can be worn if the shirt/sweater
goes below the students bottom.
b. Tights and dance/exercise wear are not considered pants.

Intro to Communications Technology~ Communications Technology will teach students


to store, analyze, manipulate, record, and transmit information through four or more
areas(1)Drafting and design and related careers, (2)Electronic communications and related
careers, (3)Audio visual/multimedia communications and related careers, and (4)Graphic
communications and related careers. Half year

11. Hair shall be worn in a clean and well-groomed manner. Extreme


and disruptive hair styles such as, but not inclusive to: Mohawks,
spikes/faux hawks more than 2 inches, steps, cut out designs or hair
colors (blue, green, pink, etc.) are not allowed.

Beginning Choir~ This course provides opportunities for students to develop their musical
potential and aesthetic understanding through singing in a choral ensemble. Study includes
the care and cultivation of a beautiful tone, aesthetic awareness, and the ability to read
music, the building of technical skills, team spirit and responsible rehearsal habits.
Attention will also be given to relating their music experiences to personal development.
Half year

12. Visible body piercing, other than ears, is not allowed. Earrings
that gauge and/or spikes in the ear are not allowed. Solid colored
plugs are allowed.

13. Holes, snags or tears that reveal skin in pants, shorts, or skirts,
will not be allowed above the knee.

Advanced Choir~ This is an audition only class for those desiring to have a quality choir
experience as well as participate in the musical. Full or Half year

14. No graffiti or pen markings on clothing or exposed skin. No


tattoos are allowed.

Beginning Band~ This class provides opportunities for students to develop their musical
potential and aesthetic understanding through learning to play a woodwind, brass, or
percussion instrument. No prerequisite course is required. Full year

15. Sleepwear worn in the school is prohibited. Slippers are not


allowed.

Intermediate Jazz Band~ First time jazz students will be learning to improvise solos and
become part of a traditional Big Band Jazz ensemble. Students will perform a minimum of
one ad lib solo at a performance during the semester. Half year
Performance Band~ Students will continue learning to play their chosen instruments from
Adv/Beg band. This band will play a minimum of three school concerts, one elementary
tour and one state band festival and other performance opportunities as they become
available. Full year
Advanced Band~ Students will continue learning to play their chosen instruments from
beginning band and perform concerts and band festivals. This class is geared towards
second year band students. Full year
Advanced Jazz Band~ Second year jazz band students continue to learn how to improvise
and expand their skills and music styles in the Big Band jazz ensemble. Students will
perform a minimum of one ad lib solo at a performance during the semester. Half year
Beginning Orchestra~ This class is for students wanting to learn to play the violin, viola,
cello, or string bass AND have fun making music. Instruments will be available for rent.
Private lessons are strongly encouraged. Full year
Advanced Orchestra~ This is a combined class of intermediate and advanced students and
expands upon the concepts learned in Beginning Orchestra. The orchestra will attend festivals
and will have solo experiences. Private lessons are strongly encouraged. Full year

16. Clothing or paraphernalia that is gang related, as interpreted by


the school administration in conjunction with local law
enforcement, is prohibited. No Old English writing. No clothing
with directional indications allowed. (North, South, East, or
West.)

Building administrators have the final say on Mount Ogdens dress code
issues.
Enforcement of the Dress Code
Students will not be allowed to turn shirts inside out to avoid
detection of Dress Code Violation.
The first and second offense, students will call home to get
clothing that meets the Dress Code. Students will wait in ISS (In
School Suspension) until appropriate clothing arrives.
The third offense, student will be sent home and may not return
until a meeting is held with the parent.

9th Grade Elective Classes

Athletics

Speech & Drama~ This is a great class for students to learn and build confidence
performing, acting, and presenting their work to their peers. Learning activities in this class
include: Reading and studying plays, scripts, and poems and/or monologues, some stage
makeup basics, pantomime, and writing and performing in a film. Half year

Football (8th and 9th), Girls Soccer (MOJH and OHS), Cross
Country (MOJH and OHS), Girls Tennis (OHS), Cheer (8th and 9th),
and Volleyball (MOJH and OHS)

Publications~ Students in Publications do many things around Mt. Ogden Junior High.
These students are part of a video production crew that puts together MTV News, created
the yearbook, writes the school newspaper, Mount Ogden Minute, and puts together
bulletin boards and posters to go up throughout the school. A strong commitment to
meeting deadlines is required, which may include necessary after school and weekend
work. This class is a team effort and good people skills are necessary. Students interested in
being in Publications must have a 3.0 GPA or higher and 90% or above in attendance with
minimal tardiness. Full year

Spanish~ Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express


feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions. Students will understand and interpret
written and spoken language on a variety of tipis. Students present information, concepts
and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics. Full year
Art II~ In Art II, students begin a journey of self-directed exploration of different styles
and media. With the guidance of the teacher and other journeymen, the student artists
decide from all our available units which ones they wish to learn. Drawing, painting,
collage, digital photography, mask making, printmaking and weaving are all part of the
program. Half year
Studio Art~ Studio Art is an accelerated art class. Students are invited to participate based
on skill level, behavior and desire to learn. All of the curriculum and media are available to
Studio artists. Advanced individual and group instruction is offered as well. Half year
ROTC~ Students will learn to appreciate the ethical values and principles that underlie
good citizenship. They will also develop leadership potential, while living and working
cooperatively with others and be able to think logically. Students will learn to communicate
effectively with others, both orally and in writing. Students will learn to appreciate the
importance of physical fitness in maintaining good health and understand the importance
of high school graduation for a successful future, and learn about college. Full year
Dynamic Fitness~ Dynamic Fitness is a class that teaches all around lifelong wellness skill
including cardio, strength resistance and flexibility. Half year
Introduction to Engineering Design~ Introduction to Engineering Design is a high school
level course that is appropriate for 9th or 10th grade students who are interested in design
and engineering. The major focus of the IED course is to expose students to design process,
research and analysis, teamwork, communication methods, global and human impacts,
engineering standards, and technical documentation. Full year
Foods and Nutrition~ This course is designed for student who are interested in
understanding the principals of nutrition and in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Attention
will be given to the selection and preparation of food and personal health and well-being.
Technical Design ~ This course prepares individuals to develop technical knowledge and
skills required to plan and prepare scale pictorial interpretations of engineering and design
concepts. This includes instruction in the use of 2D or 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD)
software, sketching, drawing layout, geometric construction, orthographic projection, and
dimensioning.

8th Grade Elective Classes


FACS Exploratory~ FACS Exploration provides students the opportunity to learn
essential life skills on a basic level. We will be covering Food and Nutrition and
Clothing and Textiles. Students will be required to complete two projects. The
sewing projects will include a pair of pajama pants, boxer-style shorts, or a purse.
Other options are available. See teacher for approval. Completing a sewing project
is a required assignment as part of this class. The sewing project is half of your
students grade. In addition to a small class fee, students will be required to
provide fabric for the project, pins and elastic. Black and white thread, seam
rippers, and scissors are provided. *small fee required Half year
