This document analyzes the gum industry using Porter's 5 forces model. It finds that there is a high threat of substitutes since cars are still the most convenient form of transportation. The threat of new entrants is weak since Toyota is an established global brand with universal standards. Suppliers have high bargaining power, mainly Toyota, since they produce high quality automobiles in demand. Buyers have low bargaining power since they depend on Toyota, which forces gum industries to follow Toyota's prices. Rivalry among competitors is strong as there are several competitors in the automotive industry that are closely balanced.
