Preparing differentiation activities depending on students

level are the key to support students in learning. Also, it
plays a very important role to improve their levels. I planned
different activities but all of them designed for the same
purpose and it achieved the learning outcomes.

Whole
Time: 10 min

Opening (warmer activity + teacher introduction/demonstration of small group activities)

Speaking , listening and reading:
Task 1:
1. Tell students the differences between "oi and oy" (engage and explore)
I will give students example of words that includes these vowels, and ask students to read it .
In addition, I will model how to decode it and ask them to repeat. .
2. Tell students story by integrating these words
While telling students the story I will engage them by asking them to repeat reading this words, using
voice intonation and predicting what will happen. As a result, students will pay attention and
motivate to learn.
Reasons for choosing story:
Integrate various learning styles which help students to understand the lesson easily. For example,
visual by showing them pictures. Also, auditory when students will listen to the teacher while
telling them the story and finally kinesthetic, when students will act and use body language.
Arouse students interest as a result, they will gain various vocabulary words and understand
better.
Whole class activity:
Engage students to find more example about these tow vowels "oi and oy"
How this activity will help both students and teacher?
Students:
Motivate them to learn because it combines fun and learning.
Capacity to distinguish between the oi and oy.
Learn how to decode the words and try to use them in their life while talking with their family and
friends.
Teacher:
Assess her students
Notice her students mistakes and improve their learning.
Make sure that her students understand the meaning of the words.
SLA approach will be integrated throughout the plan

Small
Time: min

Guided Experience (group working with the teacher)

The teacher will explain the activity and students will get chances to engage and explore.
Matching cards. (low level)
Materials:
Cards of the vowels oi and oy.
Words that includes these two oi and oy such as, point, noise, boy, toy, joy, voice, soil and joints.
Instructions:
Give each pair a set of the vowel cards and the words cards.
Ask student to put the vowel cards face down in a pile and the matching words cards are spread face
down on the table.
Student will take top the vowel cards from the pile and turns over one of the words cards. Then they
will read the word and the vowels.
If the cards match, student will keep the pairs For example, they will match boy with the oy vowel.
Whereas, if the card dont match, they will returned the vowel cards to the bottom of the pile and
the words card is turned back face down in its place. This will help them to remember where the
word cards were.
After finishing the cards, students will choose one words and write three sentences about it.
I will model this activity for them.
While students doing the activity, I will correct their mistakes if they have and assess their learning.
Reasons for choosing this activity:
Motivate them to learn because it has bright and colorful illustrations generate interest.
Help them to distinguish between the vowel oi and oy.
Why I choose this for low level?
Low level students faced problem in distinguishing between the vowels . So, this activity will support
them because they will have one word in each card.

Independent Experience (small group activity 1)

Engage, Explore and Explain
Show me the words. (medium Level) .This activity will be for two groups.
Materials:
Prepare cards for the words and the vowel oi and oy..Also, answer key to help them to do self-correction.
Instructions:
It will be paired activity, one student will say either the vowel oi or oy for her/his partner.
Her partner will choose a word that has this vowel oi, say it and the word. For example, choice.
They will continue working until finishing all the cards.
After finishing the cards, students will choose two words and write three sentences about them.
Why I choose this activity:
Improve students listening because each partner has to concentrate while their partner say
the vowels and the words.
According to Vygotsky, who mentioned that when students work together and have a
chance to discus and share this will support them to acquire language and learn from each
other. In addition, this is "ZPD", because students can guide their partner while doing the
tasks.
Reinforce students reading, writing and speaking.
Why I choose this for medium level?
Medium level students have the ability to distinguish between the vowels "oi and oy", but
they need more practice and support to be able to reach the high level. In addition, by doing
as pairs, they will scaffold and help each other.
Independent Experience(small group activity 2)
Explain, Explore, and Engage.
X and O (high level)
Materials:
Each student has a paper for X and O game and cubes
Instructions:
It will be paired activity ,each partner has a turn to select a word ,say it, read it and tell her/his
partner where this word is classifies either oi or oy. For example, Amal will choose this word noise,
she will read it and say it is under oi vowel. She will put a cube on this word. Then her partner will
choose another word and do like her/his partner, and put the cube on the word.
If they get horizontal, vertical and diagonal line , they will win.
After finishing the x and o game , students will choose three words and write three sentences about
them.
Reasons for choosing this activity:
Combine fun and learning at the same time.
Help students to distinguish between the oi and oy vowel.
Develop students reading and writing.
Why I choose this for high level?
High level students need challenged activity and this activity integrates math and English. Especially,
when they will be able to distinguish horizontal, vertical and diagonal line .
Moreover, they are able to read the words, able to distinguish between the oi and oy without getting
scaffolding from the teacher.

Whole
Time: 5 min

Closing

Make a short review by asking students oral questions and matching the word with the vowel.

Assessment
While students doing the activity I will walk around to observe their working .In addition I will ask them Oral
question, such as, can you read the word?.
Moreover, I will provide appropriate feedbacks for them and improve their learning.
In addition, I will use the checklist.
Reflection:

what went well:

I integrated different learning styles such as, visual by showing students pictures while reading the story,
kinesthetic, while acting the story and finally, auditory when students were listening to the teacher while
reading the story and introduce the lessons. As a result, students were engaged to that and understand the
lesson perfectly.
The activities were perfect , students love it, enjoyed and participated to it.
I praised the students who were behaved well, participated and do great job as a result, other students keeps
quite and try to copy their behavior.
The story was great and reinforce students to understand the lesson easily.

Even better if:

Focus on the classroom management by walk around the class, use eye contact while teaching because some
students were playing and ignoring the teacher
Prepare extension activities because some of students finished their work quickly and want other activities so,
I have to keep students busy by planning various extension activities.
Walk around to check students work, assess and evaluate students work.
Next step in teaching and learning:
Used various strategies to manage students such as, walking around and signs.
Keep praising students especially who listen and follow the teacher.
Engaged students to the lesson by using songs and story.
