Miss Carpenters Discipline Plan

To maintain a safe and supportive classroom this plan will be followed to address discipline
problems and manage student behavior.
Step 1- Private Signal/ Non-verbal Communication
Proximity control: Standing close to the student to hopefully stop the behavior that is
occurring.
The teacher look: making eye contact with the student briefly accompanied by a stern
facial expression.
Step 2- Verbal Warning
Name calling: use the students name in the instruction to gain their attention.
Rule Reminder: Making a whole class reminder of the rules and policies, use a question
that the student who is misbehaving can answer.
Saying specifically to the student that they are not following a specific rule and this is
their warning.
Step 3- Quick Conference
Bringing the student to the hallway for a quick one on one conference to address the
behavior that occurred.
Step 4- Reflection Card/ Individual Conference
Have the students fill out the reflection card during class directly after the behavior has
occurred. Tell them that they will need to come before or after school for an individual
conference to discuss what they wrote on their reflection card and their behavior.
Step 5- Call Parents/Interclass Time Out (IOT)
Student will be sent to another teachers classroom to have time away from the class they
are normally in. As the teacher you can set the time they will be gone and what they
should do while they are there. If IOT occurs the parents will need to be contacted.
Step 6- Office Referral
If a students behavior is severe they will need to be sent to the office for the
administration to deal with their discipline.
Step 7- Parent-Student-Teacher/Team Conference
The teacher will need to contact the parents and arrange a time to talk with the student
and their parents to arrange the best way to help the student. This will hopefully minimize
the misbehaviors occurring for all the teachers on the team.
Students are expected to follow the rules and procedures in the classroom at all times. If they are
unable to do so this plan will be implemented and followed. In certain circumstances the order of
these steps may vary. Each student is held to the same expectations and will all be disciplined if
they cannot follow the classroom rules.

Reflection Card
1. What did I do that was disruptive or inappropriate? Why did I do this?

2. What classroom rule does this break?

3. What will I do next time when I have the urge to act out?

4. What are the consequences for my behavior?

5. What can Miss Carpenter do to help you?
