Audience: I will not only teach them how to play a fun game, but also why rhetoric is important and how it
has affected our history and how it could affect our future.

Rhetoric and why it is important

Introduction:
What can you learn from playing secret Hitler? The first thing you will learn is trust no one. The second
thing you will learn is that Rhetoric is everything.
Once you have played the game enough times you learn that the most important thing about the game is
being able to persuade people that you are good with no actual proof.
You will either sink or swim and it is all based on your rhetoric.
Preview:
What you are going to need in order to play the game is, the secret Hitler law cards, the fascist and liberal sides of
the bored, secret Hitler role cards, and the president and counselor cards, the previous president and counselor
cards. And the yes and no cards,
You are going to need at least 5 players to play, there are always more liberals than fascists and the fascists know
who they are but the liberals dont know who anyone is. There are two separate pieces of the bored one side is
fascist the other is liberal, if you place 6 fascist policies then the fascists win, if you place 5 liberal policies then the
liberals win the game, if you kill Hitler liberals win the game, if Hitler gets elected as counselor if there are three or
more fascist policies on the bored then the fascists win the game.
Since liberals outnumber the fascists you are going to need to be able to convince most people that you are a
liberal, even if you are a liberal you are going to need to do so. When the fascists place too many policies the
president get a bullet in which they can kill anyone they want in the game. If you are liberal but people dont think

you are there is a good chance you will get killed. You need to be able to convince people you are the good guy
without any evidence just based on what you say. The bullet is a huge deciding factor it makes the teams sink or
swim in the game.
Rhetoric is important in the game because its the only way you can convince people you are the good guy.
Rhetoric is important in many aspects of life, like in a job interview or trying to become president of a country.
Body:
I. Having proper rhetoric can get you extreme amounts of power
B. Obama made many speeches during his long campaigns to becoming the president of the United
States
1. Many people preferred him because of his eloquent speeches, he had good rhetoric. He is
able to hypnotize his audience with how he says things, he has a rhythm that suck you into his speech.
2. Body language is important part of a debate if it is live, your body language can betray your
true intentions, that is why if you watch a tv political debate and only listen to it over the radio
people are split between who one and who lost the debate, because one can only hear what they
are saying and the other can see and pick up small movements that makes the person more
likable.
3, the words that he chooses are also very important, he uses words big enough to make him
sound intelligent but not big enough where the common person does not understand them. He
uses phrases that strike a certain emotion; this is a quote from the sand hook speech he made
about gun control This is our first task caring for our children. It's our first job. If we don't get
that right, we don't get anything right. That's how, as a society, we will be judged. This paints a
picture of something that needs to be changed now.
A. Hitler came into power because of the many speeches he made. He wouldnt have been the dictator
that he became if he wasnt a good public speaker.
1. during Hitlers rise to power he made many speeches that were thought out to the exact detail,
he know what to say and how to say it to convince people to be on his side.
2. He would follow a structure of rise and fall where near the end of his speech there was a
climax of emotion, he would use certain gestures that would provoke emotion as well with his
speech.
3his rhetoric got him into power, he convinced people that he would make Germany great again
without really saying anything of substance at all. With the power of rhetoric and great timing he
became a very powerful man.
Transition: because of rhetoric these men were able to come into great amounts of power, now how they used
that power is a different all to gather.
Second major point: rhetoric can be used in everyday life
Such as getting your first job,
Since you have no resume really to use you have to use your conversation skills to convince the
person to hire you. It all depends on how and what you say.
