Behavior Contingency Plan (BCP): Grading Rubric

Grading Rubric
Model attractive, shows effort & thought, shows behavior, progress toward goal, activity
____/10 points
Catchy, positive title that fits the desirable behavior and final activity
Joyful about Geography

____/2 points

Undesirable Behavior Targeted:

Off task Behaviors
-talking to a classmate about material that is off topic and does not pertain to their center.
- repeatedly sharpening a pencil
-repeatedly getting out of a seat to use the bathroom
-walking around the room instead of being productive at the Daily 5 center
-playing with pencils, glue or scissors
-sitting at center, rather than working
Desirable (expected) Behavior Targeted:
Stay on task in Daily 5
-Get started right away at all Daily 5 centers
-read the whole time in read to self
-take turns reading in read to someone and read the whole time
-write the whole time in daily 5 about writing prompt
-Make, read and write phonics words, the whole time during word work

Types of positive reinforcements - Reinforced when & how?

Immediate & delayed R+ should be related to the final activity being earned.
1. Immediate R+: The immediate R+ is one tally mark on the bulletin board when a student/students
are on task. When the students/class has earned a total of ten tally marks, we will add a part of the
map. I will add tally marks heavy at first and then pull back as I do want students to build
intrinsic motivation for behavior choices. I want to encourage and build intrinsic rewards.
____/8 points
2. Ongoing R+: The ongoing R+ will be the seven continents, four oceans and seven major
landforms. The map will begin as a blue map with nothing on it besides the equator line. Each
time the students earn 10 points/a group of ten ,we will add a part of the map. (On my example, I
do have two continents added and 20 total tally marks to show how my BCP would work.).We
will start adding the continents first (one at a time.)There are a total of seven continents. Then add
the oceans after all the continents are on the map. We will add to oceans one at a time as well.
There are a total of four oceans. Lastly, we would add the seven major landforms again, one at a
time. In total, students will need to earn a total of 170 points to complete/add all the parts to the
map
3. Overall R+: The overall R+ will be students working in table groups to complete a paper mache
globe. The paper mache globe will have the seven continents, four oceans and seven major

landforms, just as the class map did. During the time that we are studying this particular TEK,
students are immersed in maps and globes as we study both.
3
At the end of Daily 5 (Daily 5 is 45 min- an hour) we will look at the tally marks we/the class has
earned. We will then total them. For every group of ten, a part of the map will be added. I will
pick a student to come up and add a continent, ocean or landform to the map as the part that is
being added will vary daily.
Interactive Learning Activity
TEK(A) identify major landforms and bodies of water, including each of the continents and each of
the oceans, on maps and globes;
During this time we will be studying maps and globes. We will be reading maps and globes where
students will be identifying the continents, oceans and major landforms. This will be done over a
couple weeks time. The students will have an understanding of this TEK and make a paper mache
globe in their table groups, when the class

Explain HOW you will Teach the Desired Behaviors:
Before starting Daily 5, I will call the class to the carpet and explain that one of our school rules is to be
productive. I will say that being productive during Daily 5 means that all students are on task. I will then
model on task behaviors in each of the centers and then, we will make an anchor chart of what on task
looks like and sounds like. This is for students to refer to during Daily 5 as well as before and after.
On Task Sounds Like
Read to Someone: level one voices

On Task Looks Like

Read to Someone: students taking turns reading
and reading the whole time

Read to Self: level zero voice

Read to self: students reading the whole time

Word Work: level zero voice

Word Work: students making, reading and writing

words the whole time

Listen to Reading: level zero voice

Listen to Reading: Listen to the whole story on

the computer

Writing: level zero voice

Writing: Write the whole time about the writing
prompt

Students will go to Daily 5 and will I will point out on task behavior and add a tally mark to the Immediate
R section on the bulletin board. When we are done with Daily 5, we will gather back at the carpet and
discuss behaviors that went well and behaviors we still need to work on. This will be repeated throughout
the week. We will discuss if we are doing better with the behaviors that we needed to work on, based on
the previous days conversation.
Explain HOW you will Teach the Plan:
I will teach the plan by telling them that we will be working to complete a world map. This will be done by
adding to the map every time students are on task in Daily 5. I will explain that we will need to earn 10
points in order to add a continent, ocean or landform. I will further explain, that he map will begin as a
blue map with nothing on it besides the equator line. Each time students earn 10 points/a group of ten ,we
will add a part of the map. I will let the students know that we will start adding the continents first (one at

a time.)There are a total of seven continents. Then add the oceans after all the continents are on the map.
We will add to oceans one at a time as well. There are a total of four oceans. Lastly, we will add the seven
major landforms again, one at a time. This conversation will be had before the students begin Daily 5 and
will lead into the conversation of what their goal is in order to begin adding parts to the map. I will then
discuss the conversation/model of what the desired behavior is, looks like, sounds like etc.

Provide options
I would implement this across class periods by having them earn 30 tally marks and then earn a continent,
ocean label or landform.
____/ 2 points
Demonstrate all Necessary Items

____/ 2 points

Share your plan with the class. Using clear presentation skills so it is easily understood,
demonstrate how you will use the plan with your students. Initiate discussion for suggestions.___/6 points
