1-What was/were the learning objectives/outcomes of the lesson? (Add state objectives if
known, for example, TEKS 111.4. Grade 2.b.)
-Students will be able to learn bystanders and identify them.

2-How did the teacher begin and end the lesson?

Ms. Quandique began the lesson by writing out the word bystander on the board and asked the
students to write down what they know and their ideas on the index card she had passed out. She
ended the lesson by summarizing what she taught throughout the lesson in five minutes and
answered students questions.

3-What did the teacher use for teaching materials or instructional aids/equipment?
The teacher used computer and projected out PowerPoint presentation about bystanders and
video in the middle of the lesson to engage students into the lesson. She also used index cards to
get students ideas about the topic.

4-Which instructional methods and strategies did the teacher use? (Lecture, inquiry,
discovery learning, discussions, games or simulations, demonstrations, cooperative learning,
integration of technology, socrative questioning, etc.)
Teacher used lecture about bystanders, discovery learning, integration of technology while
presenting the PowerPoint presentation, and socrative questioning.

5-How did the teacher assess learning? (Informal, formal, formative, summative, oral, openended, quiz, feedback etc.) See Chapter 8 for more information on assessment methods
-Formative Evaluation: discussion with whole class and students were able to criticize about
questions the teacher asked, summative, formal when teaching the lesson, and informal- while
asking funny questions.
6- What can you say about the teachers philosophy/beliefs and style?
(Traditional/progressive, behaviorist, student-centered vs. teacher centered, authoritative etc.)
It was traditional and student-centered; the teacher didnt just talk throughout the lesson and
made sure that all students understood the topic.
7-How does the teacher manage classroom? Can you identify classroom management
techniques used?
The teacher managed the classroom well; she engaged students into the lesson by giving real life
examples from their school and other school in same age group.
8-Observe in the classroom setting and determine types of behavior students play when offtask. What do they do when they are not paying attention? How does the teacher re-direct
them or get them back on task?
Students were talking to each other when they were not talking to each other, the teacher redirect them on task by asking questions about the topic like what is a bystander, and asked them
nicely to pay attention.
9-How does the teacher communicate with students (verbal, vocal, meta-verbal or non-verbal
communication such as facial, body language, use of space, motion and time?)
The teacher communicated with students with verbal, facial expression, body language, and
motion. She didnt just stand in one spot and talked; she walked around the classroom and called
out students names in her real life experiences.
10-Who were the students in the class? What did you notice about them? (Background,
diversity, attitude, motivation, interaction, participation, etc.)
They were 6th-grade students; they were interactive, had high motivation, their behavior was not
bad or perfect. Most of the time students in the classroom were self-motivated to learn.
11-What did you see that is effective in engaging students? What do you see that is
ineffective in keeping students engaged?
Asking questions, video and bell work was effective in the classroom. The ineffective part was
students were not taking notes they were just listening to the teacher's lecture.

12-What are the two instructional strategies you observed and would like to apply in your
classroom?
-Writing out the topic on the board and asking students knowledge about the topic by asking
them to write it down what they know into the index card or post it sticky notes. Also in end of
the lesson summarizing and feed-back questions to make sure students understood the topic.

13-What are two important classroom management strategies that you observed and would
like to apply in your classroom?
-After every 15-20 minutes asking students funny questions to keep them engaged and the
student who answers the question correct will receive PRS points or small prize like candy or
extra credit. The second strategy she used was talking to students both formal and informal to
engage students into the topic.
