AED Survey for 2014-2015 School Year
This is a list of compiled ideas that have been used in the past/present and/or could
be incorporated into AED for the future. To help structure the organization around
members interests, this list will aid leaders of AED to create opportunities that
members will want to participate in.
1. Please check all opportunities/events that you are interested in
Military recruiters (could include Army, Navy, or Air force)
Mentor program (mainly for new members, specifically freshman)
CPR course (an opportunity to get CPR certified outside of the scheduled
meetings)
AED sponsored mission trip (could be during spring break, winter break, or
summer break)
OPPA speaker (This meeting would consist of re-enforcing what pre-med
students should be doing during their undergraduate career to prepare for
the application process, learning about the application process, and
educating members on the resources available to them through OPPA. This
would most likely be one of our first meetings)
End of year evaluations (in an effort for future leaders to strengthen the
organization, a survey such as this one would be given to members at the
end of the year. This will allow for AED to grow as an organization as well as
meet the interests of its members)
Calendar on website (to cut down on the number of mass emails sent out, a
calendar will be put in place on the website to clear up any confusion for
members about events, meetings, or opportunities)
Photographer position within AED (create a photographer position in which an
AED member will be in charge of taking pictures of events and be responsible
for filming lectures given by important speakers at each meeting. This will
also help advertise our organization in the best light possible)
AED sponsored blood drive (could be an annual event for AED if successful)
Community service opportunities (meals on wheels speaker, free medical
clinic speaker, and others to get members to start thinking about resume
building while at the same time learning about the different local
opportunities available to them to help the community)
Point system (introduce a point system that will keep track of members
involvement in the organization. Each semester a set number of points must
be earned to remain a member of AED. A point will be earned for every
meeting attended, hour of service given to AED events, or a point per hour of
volunteer work at a medical facility)
1

Increase in dues (membership dues are an essential part to how the

organization is ran. An increase in dues will guarantee members an AED
designed t-shirt each year while at the same time creating a larger budget for
the organization to plan events or new opportunities such as a discounted
AED sponsored mission trip for members)
USC medical university trips (these day trips could potentially be offered once
a semester and offer a first person encounter into a day in the life of a
medical student. Trips could including going to USC School of Medicine
Columbia, USC School of Medicine Greenville, and/or MUSC in Charleston)
Social events (once a semester AED will hold a social event for members and
their friends. These opportunities would be a great way for members to get to
know one another)
Fundraisers (A bake sale is a good way to earn some money towards our
organization but donating toys to Happy Wheels or supplies to The Free
Medical Clinic is a great way to give back to our local community. Also
percent night at Yoghut to raise funds for Timmy Global health has been
done in the past)
Physician mixer (casual interactive experience for members to talk with
doctors over dinner)
Volunteer Hours (a mandatory set number of hours of volunteer work will
need to be completed each semester by members in order to remain an
active member. This mandated requirement is put in place for members to
introduce themselves to hands on exposure in a medical facility such as
Palmetto Health Hospital)

2. The list does not include specific physician speakers. In the space
provided below, list any occupation within the medical field that you
would like to have a speaker come talk to us about.

3. If you have an idea that is not already listed above, please feel free
to write any suggestion in the box provided below.
