Fade In:
EXT.NEW YORK CITY - MID DAY/ SUNSET- 1977
In a montage of shots, we see an overview visual of the
south Bronx in New York City, left devastated, destroyed,
filled with vacant homes, trash, burnt buildings, and
boarded up schools. We see Graffiti artists write on metro
carts, b-boys dance in alley ways, and Gang members posted
up on the corner. The city is a war zone! There is a slow
reveal of a row of houses on fire, engulfed in flames.
ACE
(V.O, music plays in
background)
South Bronx. Some call it hell but
I call it home. It aint perfect,
but its MINE. Yeah it may not be
fancy and can be dangerous at
times, but you know What? South
Bronx is the Dope-est place there
is. Its the home of hip hop. From
the b-boys and b-girls to the the
night artists, MCs and DJs. Ill
never forget where I come from!
Welcome to South Bronx!
INT. ACE APARTMENT
Ace, a tall, dark skinned 22 year old African American male
with shoulder length locs frantically wakes up in a smoke
and fire filled apartment. Ace wakes out of sleep, furiously
coughs and looks around for a way out. Ace crawls out of the
bed and onto the floor. He makes his way to the door to
check if the door Knob is hot.
ACE
(Screams and pulls hand back)
Ahh, shit!
From an eye view perspective, Ace rushes to the painted shut
window in a panic, looks around frantically, grabs an
antique lamp off of the dresser and furiously punches it
through the window. He pauses then looks back to see his
DJ equipment across the room, hesitates and the world stops
for a moment as ace thinks.
ACE
(V.O., looking around the
room)
You never think your going to be in
this kind of situation until your
in it. I dont have much to my name

Ace unfreezes. He looks back and forth between the broken
window and his DJ equipment. A small tear runs down the side
of his cheek. He wipes it off, turns to the window and
quickly climbs out.
CUT TO:
EXT. APARTMENT COMPLEX FIRE ESCAPE
Ace is on the tenth story of cold rusted metal fire escape.
Ace looks down. He runs down the stairs, reaches the bottom
of the fire escape and realizes it stops at the 3rd story.
Ace looks up and the entire block engulfed in flames.
Footage is frantic, with a close up of Aces face, heavily
sweating, with fear across his face, he closes his eyes,
takes a deep breath and jumps.
FADE TO BLACK:
FLASHBACK: INT. APARTMENT HALLWAY (WAY TWO DAYS BEFORE)
Vince Castanza; A 57" middle aged bald white man, with red
patchy skin and crooked teeth, the land lord of the building
Ace lives in; walks up to LOW; a 62", brown skinned
Puerto-Rican man with a tight fitting brown leather jacket,
no shirt underneath, black cuffed jeans and a tooth pic that
hangs out the side of his mouth; sits on the Apartment
steps. Roaches crawl on the floor. The hallway reaks of dirt
and grime. Vince takes out a crisp 50 dollar bill to give to
Low. Low takes his toothpick out of his mouth, and looks
Vince up and down.
VINCE
(cocky, arrogant)
I dont want this place standing;
make it look like an accident OK.
Dont fuck this up for me.
Vince looks to his silver linked wrist watch and back at
Low. Low now stands up and towers over Vince. Not saying a
word, Low lifts his shirt to flash his nickle plated gun for
Vince to see it.
LOW

VINCE
(annoyed)
Well what do you want?
Vince pulls out his brown leather wallet as he holds it
close to him so that Low doesnt see inside, rustles in it a
bit and pulls out a $20 dollar bill with the 50 he already
had.
Low pulls his gun out of his pants.

Low pushes Vince into the wall and walks out.
FLASH-FORWARD:EXT. OUTSIDE ACE APARTMENT COMPLEX (PRESENT
DAY)
We see Ace run to the closest pay phone which is a block
away from the fire filled apartment. Ace frantically looks
around and digs through his pockets for change. The change
in his pockets jingle and fall to the ground. Ace hastily
picks up the quarter and puts the quarter in the slot. As
his hand shakes he dials 911...
INT. 911 DISPATCH CENTER & EXT. OUTSIDE APT
At the 911 dispatch center we hear phones ring
uncontrollably. A female 911 OPERATOR, who wears a
white button down shirt with wavy hair slicked into a messy
ponytail, reaches over to answer the phone and clumsily tips
over her cup of coffee. Some of the coffee spills on the
front of her shirt. The female Operator now frustrated
answers the phone while wiping her shirt. In a continuous
cross-cut between ACE and the 911 OPERATOR we see the two
on the phone in different locations.
911 OPERATOR
(frustrated)
911 Whats your emergency?
ACE
(urgent, a tear runs down his
face)
My apartment on fire, you gotta
send somebody quick, I think there

911 OPERATOR #2
(Shakes his head)

The female dispatcher takes a deep breath and and slowly
pics the phone back up.
911 OPERATOR
(Interrupts, frustrated)
Hi, Mr. Moore; all the trucks are
currently dispatched, we will get
there as soon as we can!
Ace angrily slams the phone into the side of the pay phone.
He walks in a circle pulling at his hair and walks back to
the payphone. Ace picks the phone up again and makes a
montage of phone calls. No one answers.
Ace sighs and rolls his eyes as he puts his last quarter

and looks at a picture of KIM, who is a 54", 19 year old

next to his bed and picks up the brown spiral-corded
